Several years ago, we bought this hobnail punch bowl in a local antique store, but it languished away in the attic because who makes punch? Not I. That is, until I saw this punch on Nora Murphy's 2014 holiday e-mag (sadly, no longer online as she is updating the old e-mags to a new format). I knew that this would be pretty and festive in the hobnail bowl, and now Scarlett O'Hara punch is a standard at our Christmas parties.
The punch is made even more beautiful by the addition of these gorgeous ice cubes!
The day before your party, gather a few simple ingredients: fresh cranberries, orange slices, and a few sprigs of rosemary. Place them in small plastic containers, cover with water, seal, and freeze overnight.
Bekah is our punch girl! She loves everything about it: the flavor, the easy recipe, the beauty (that, she really loves!), and ladling it into the little hobnail punch cups. She takes ownership of the whole process.
SCARLETT O'HARA CHRISTMAS PUNCH
(non-alcoholic version)
Ingredients:
1 gallon cranberry juice
1 cup lime juice
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1 liter ginger ale
gorgeous ice cubes :)
Directions:
1) Stir together first four ingredients.
2) Add beautiful ice!
Note: If you don't have a punch bowl, you could mix this up in a pitcher or jug, and serve it in clear glasses or even in pretty plastic punch cups. Make your ice in a regular ice cube tray with tiny rosemary sprigs and a few cranberries.
Are you getting everything checked off your list? My shopping is finished, but I still have some wrapping to do. And {confession here} I have not baked a single thing! Nada. Kati has made fudge and several flavors of chocolate bark, but the only cookies we have in this house today are Keebler. I hope to make a couple of kinds of cookies before week's end, as well as some Chex mix. We'll see how it goes.
Today, I am hosting a little luncheon for my mom, my sister, and my aunt. (My aunt is bringing dessert. It's a good thing, huh?)
Off to the grocery store for a last minute ingredient...
How are things going there in your corner?
I love a good punch, and a pretty one? Even better!
ReplyDeleteI'm certain your home is full of delight this week. Enjoy it all!
I'm so glad I saw this before we're off to hopefully the last grocery run! It looks so festive and sounds delicious. I'm in the home stretch. Merry Christmas to you and your family, dear Cheryl! ♥
ReplyDeletePerfect recipe for that great punch bowl! Love the tutorial on those ice cubes. What a pretty idea. Hope things will be merry and filled with light during your gatherings!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the pretty ice cubes. Well on track here, with ginger biscuits made, cake done, and now just longing to see my daughter from Canada and grandson, who arrive tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely try it! I think that I might use a combination of the actual punch instead of water, though, for those beautiful ice cubes! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful punch bowl and punch. I received a beautiful carnival ware punch bowl as a wedding gift 45 years and I may have used it two times in all these years. Glad you are able to use yours. Merry Christmas and blessings to you and your family. I enjoyed the Christmas tour of Pineapple House. Sharon D.
ReplyDeleteThe punch looks festive in that punch bowl. I have my mother's old punch bowl but I do think the hobnails add a lot the way they reflect the light. I wouldn't worry about the cookies! Put your feet up!
ReplyDeleteYour/Bekah's punch is a beautiful thing! It sounds refreshing - especially with the lime juice. The punch bowl is so pretty. Our favourite punch is simply ice cold ginger-ale topped with floats of lime sherbet! It helped me to get things done last week because we had dinner guests on Sunday - nothing like having guests in to make you get some things done!
ReplyDeleteOh this sound delicious! I am definitely going to give it a whirl. Our standard "punch" is ridiculously easy. 1/2 gallon of sherbet (any flavor!) with 2 litters of 7-up poured over the top. It's drained every year, lol. No baking over here...but then all of my guests for this year have come and gone already. All I have to do is be the guest now...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful punch bowl! We serve punch on special occasions and this one sounds delightful! I am just wondering if I can find the time to run to the store for ingredients to prepare this for tomorrow nights Christmas Eve get together. Merry Christmas to you and your sweet family!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful punch (and punch bowl)! I pinned this to my "Christmas Hospitality" board in hopes I will remember to try it next year.
