Pineapple House | Autumn Living Room

Now it's official. The first day of autumn is finally here!

Be still my autumn-loving heart!

However, I did not wait for the official first day to begin fallifying my house. Nope. I started taking summery touches away little by little. And then I couldn't help but pull my new wool pumpkin out of the closet. "I'm not going to go all out yet," I told my family. "Just a few hints of autumn."

But after we went to the farm stand, I gave in to all the autumn goodness!

Fall is my favorite!

Cozy. Warm. Colorful.

I know the trend is decorating with neutrals. I see creamy, dreamy fall homes all over the internet, and they are beautiful. But in my world, fall is COLOR!

The mantle is decorated with a mixture of faux and the real deal. Can you tell which is which?

Every year I say it: "I'm not going to buy any more fall decor. I have enough."

But then this wool pumpkin won my heart and found its way into my cart at Marshalls.

Pinky likes it too.

Autumn potpourri in an old dough bowl.

I am having fun with my new table. It's the perfect place for seasonal decor. (To be honest, I've already tweaked it. This is what it looked like on the day that I took pictures.)

Autumn makes my heart (and my home) sing!

Do you add a little fall to your home? (Or a lot of fall?) Neutral or colorful?

  2. Your autumn "clutter" is charming. It's comfortably welcoming. I like your dried bits of nature in the wooden bowl and your mantel arrangement. I can see why you like that cute felt pumpkin. Time for me to take out the corn husk dolls.

    1. Thanks, Karen! Sometimes I think I go a bit overboard for autumn, but I can't seem to help myself!

I am not surprised that your eye was drawn to the natural elements. :)

  4. Fall means "color" for me, too. I sometimes really like the look of neutral on neutral, but I could never pull it off. That wool pumpkin is adorable. (Say, has Pinky been losing weight?) No, I can not tell what is faux on your mantel. It looks great!
    🍁Happy Autumn🍁

    1. Color kindreds is what we are! Thanks for your kind words!

Pinky is a skinny cat, isn't she? Or maybe "petite" sounds better. She's just a little over six pounds. She varies a half pound up or down, but she has never been a big girl. What she lacks in size, she makes up in attitude!

Happy Autumn to you too!! (My computer doesn't do such adorable emojis. Maybe I should write comments on my phone . . . )

    2. Cheryl, your beautiful décor makes me wish I wasn't too lazy to do seasonal decorating! But I am, and that's all there is to it! (In case Vee comes back here, I wanted to say how much I miss her in the blogosphere.)

    3. Jean, you are not lazy! One look at your beautiful blog tells me that. Simply, we all have different things that float our boat. :)

I miss Vee too!! Her absence leaves a hole. I hope that she is able to return to posting some day!

  5. It looks delightful. Sadly we English don't decorate here so much except at Christmas. Maybe we should!

  6. Your mantel (and table top) are lovely, Cheryl. And yes, I've added some fall touches to our interior and use BOTH color and neutral. I'll add additional items in about a month or so to round out for Thanksgiving.

Last year I did some major purging and was happy with what I saved for this year. It also made the decision-making/placement easier!

    1. Thank you, Rebecca! I, too, have items that I bring out closer to Thanksgiving.

I really like your idea of purging at the end of the season. I can imagine that it did simplify things for this year. I need to take a lesson from this . . .

  12. Beautiful decorations! Can you tell us where you purchased the autumn potpourri? I'd love something like that for our kitchen table. Our four little kids love unusual shapes and textures, so I think they would really enjoy that. :)

    1. Thank you, Abigail! Unfortunately, the potpourri answer is complicated. (How can potpourri be complicated?!)

I kind of bought the potpourri at Macy's several years ago (10-ish maybe?). BUT I do weird things with my potpourri. I have a bunch of different kinds (usually bought on clearance) and I tend to pull my favorite elements out to add to another. Or I rob all of the pine cones to make a winter potpourri. And then I forget which things go in which bag, so I end up with who-knows-what!

Sorry I wan't more help. My grandchildren often pick up pieces and smell them or "serve" them for "tea." Hope you find some fun potpourri for your littles! :)

    2. That's very helpful; thank you! The kids and I will be on the hunt for some. :)

By the way, the composition of your potpourri photo is beautiful!

  15. oh yes, fall is all about color! And what a gift fall leaf color is for our eyes tired from the relentless summer sun! Your fallified house looks lovely--of course-- I even like your wool pumpkin though that new look is an adjustment for me. At least it's not blue (tho they are pretty!)

    1. Yes, I like how you express that: "And what a gift fall leaf color is for our eyes tired from the relentless summer sun!" I think you're on to something there!

That pumpkin had two things going for it:
      1) It's a pumpkin. :D
      2) The natural fibers and feel drew me in.

I did see a blue one! (But that one did not demand to jump into my cart.) ;)

  16. Haven't blogged all week-end and I can see I am so far behind. I LOVE your Fall decor. It all has a very natural look so to speak and looks soo warm and nice. I am always going to stop buying as well, but somehow never do. I am a little worse with Christmas decor though. Which when I think about it doesn't make much sense. I keep Fall decor up from Sept 1 until Thanksgiving, and Christmas only up a month. Fall decor to put up takes maybe an hour and Christmas decor takes days...lol. I should re think this, lol. Have a good week Cheryl!

    1. Thanks, Debbie! You know, I have had those same thoughts about decorating! I think maybe that's why I enjoy fall decorations so much . . . not only is fall my favorite, but I can also enjoy the fall decor so much longer. No rush to change it out. I do love decorating for Christmas, but after all that work, I'd like for it to hang around a little longer. :)
