Kayaking

When it's a glorious autumn day . . . and your son and his family are camping . . . and four of the cousins are also joining in the fun . . . and you are invited to come for the day (not to sleep over) (in a tent) (too old for that) . . . and there is a picnic lunch . . . and three kayaks . . .

. . . then you're glad that you came and gathered such memory-making moments!

  1. What a fun outing this looks like, Cheryl, I was invited to go kayaking down the Cape Fear River a few weeks ago, but declined simply because I knew I might not make it especially since I had never kayaked before, besides I don't think I could fit in one of those. ~smile~
Your family is so precious, this is so refreshing.
    Have a great week,
    Blessings,
    Sue

    1. It was great fun, Sue, but my part was enjoying the company of my peeps, not kayaking. Ron and I watched and admired and soaked up the moments!

  4. Such lovely blue water, and the family looked as if they were enjoying themselves so much.

  5. Kayaking is such fun. I used to love paddling up and down the river here in town. Did you give it a go? It’s just so much more stable than a canoe and great to be low and close to the water. It’s not as difficult as one might think, though that blue one might be a titch concerning. Ha! That is such a lovely spot for camping and I see that you have some foliage to look forward to soon. Your family was having a great time. Love the smile on your grand’s face as he is nestled in with his dad. And the parting photo? So cute!

    1. I hope I don't disappoint you, but I did not give it a go. About 16 years ago, Ron overturned a kayak getting into it. I was not about to risk that at my advanced age! (He and I both were observers and cheer-er-on-ers this time!

The blue one is Kati's "sit on top" kayak. She chose it because it has better stability, it is easier to steer, and some of her kayaking friends have that style.

I love Peter's smile too! Ryan took several of the younger children who dared not venture out alone. Paul (2) shouted, "Look at me! I in a boat with Daddy!"

      Melting . . .

    2. ☺️ He did? That’s wild! I probably wouldn’t go kayaking if I had managed that! Ron can borrow Jake’s line: “And that’s just one of the spectacular things I’ve done without even trying.”

    3. That is a great line! I'm going to share that one with Ron! :D

  6. I got in my son's kayak once and paddled around. It was fun and a lot easier than a canoe. I doubt I'd do it again now with my knee. Looks like a beautiful day and I'm sure you are delighted you went (and didn't have to sleep over!)

    1. I have heard that a kayak is a lot more stable than a canoe, but I think I have passed the age of putting that to the test! Ron used to have a canoe and I rode in it a few times, but that was quite a few years ago.

But, yes, it was a beautiful day and I had a wonderful time being with everyone (and not sleeping over)! :)

  7. What beautiful pictures you got, and looks like soo much fun. My youngest son and his family have done quite a bit of kayaking, but I have never attempted it. I guess at this point that kayak has sailed, lol. Soo glad you were able to be part of it all.

    1. Thanks, Debbie! And I was quite happy to be a part of the fun without getting into the boat. :)

  8. Wonderful photos of this fun activity! I would probably be a spectator as well. I prefer to ride in a larger boat. :D

  10. Let's try this again. I'm with you...no more tent camping for me. What a fun day and how nice to enjoy kayaking. Getting in a kayak is a lot harder for me lately, too.

    1. Ellen, you are an adventurous person and I can imagine you in a kayak! I may have gotten in one some years ago, but I don't think I'll start now. I did go canoeing a few times when Ron had a canoe, but now I am happy on the dock watching my loves have a great time!

  11. I enjoy kayaking or canoeing and we hope to get our own kayaks some day. It's a lot of fun watching the family enjoy themselves, too. Autumn sunshine is so precious.
