A brother in our home fellowship illuminated something in this passage that had been a hidden truth to me. The resurrected Jesus was speaking to Simon Peter . . .
Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep. Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.” John 21:17-19
I hope you are not finding this discussion morbid. Conversely, I find this thought heartening: that God has designed the time and circumstances of my earthly departure in a way which will bring glory to Him!
There is great comfort in this!
Amen! Our lives are in His hands! He knows the how and the when.

ReplyDeleteOh yes. It's a good thing that we don't know so many things. It is enough to trust Him.
DeleteIt would be terrible to know the time of our ending. Thank God that He is in charge.
ReplyDeleteSuch comfort in knowing that He is in charge and has a beautiful plan!
DeleteAbsolutely! By our life or our death He is to receive the glory. It's a comforting thought that even by leaving this earth we are giving Him glory.
ReplyDeleteI found that comforting too!
DeleteAmen to that! That's why I love the scriptures in Ecclesiastes 3:2..."a time to be born, a time to die". I never want to go against His plan.
ReplyDeleteI love that verse and it fits perfectly in this discussion!
DeleteComforting to know we are in his hands.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
