Our weekend plans had been in the works since December. Ryan and Sarah were running an adventure race in Spotsylvania, Virginia and they asked us to go along to supervise the kiddos.
On Friday, the eight of them (and LucyDog) and the three of us, along with food and port-a-cribs and pillows and luggage and dog supplies piled into two vehicles and set off for the weekend! Three of the grands rode in our van and we had SO much fun . . . talking, laughing, walky-talky communications between the two vans, eating snacks, and playing "The Minister's Cat."
We stayed in a lovely, spacious Airbnb!
We ate (some carryout, some cooking) . . .
relaxed . . .enjoyed the babies . . .
watched some shows . . .
and did a little dancing. Some tried to learn to moonwalk! :)
I took time for a soak in this luxurious tub!
On their way . . . |
After the race and some quick naps for the babies, we set off to explore some history of the Battle of Fredericksburg on the Sunken Road Walking Trail.
Here are a few birthday pics his mama shared with me:
We FaceTimed with the birthday boy when we got home so that we could sing to him and share some of his excitement! We plan to celebrate both babies' birthdays (Caleb's 2nd and Ellie's 1st) when we visit them. Can't wait!
Another birthday! Our busy birthday season is upon us 4 May birthdays, and 4 June birthdays!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of birthdays! It keeps you on your toes, doesn't it? Our family has grown so that there is only one month (February) without a birthday now.
DeleteI've never heard of an Adventure Race, Cheryl. It's so nice you all had an adventure as well. Love hearing you came to our area.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Caleb! So glad to hear you will be seeing them soon.
Martha Ellen, I thought about you all weekend, wishing that we could have met, but there simply wasn't time, even if it would have fit your schedule. But another time! We loved your area and took note of several things to do and see on a future visit!
DeleteI had never heard of an Adventure Race either, but Ryan and Sarah had watched a TV series featuring one and became interested in trying it for themselves.
Thank you for the birthday greetings! It's hard to believe that Baby Caleb is two!
What a fun adventure in the airbnb and the different locale helping with the kiddos and then seeing what you could see. Love the walkie talkie adventures between the vehicles. Fun. Seems like all the outdoor half marathons and other relays are starting up with a vengeance now that May is here. Sweet birthday boy! Happy 2nd birthday to Caleb. Exciting that you are going to be able to celebrate both of them soon.
ReplyDeleteIt was lots of fun hanging out with some of our favorite people! And, yes, we're excited to have plans in the works for visiting another group of our favorite people!
DeleteHow fun to hang out with some of your lovely family in what looks like a very nice spot. Eating, dancing, playing games, cuddling babies - all very good things!
ReplyDeleteSuch a good weekend!
DeleteHey - that sure sounds like a lot of fun for all! Wonderfilled memories made!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rosella! It is such a gift to make memories with your people!
DeleteThat looks like a delightful AirBNB with lots of space for you all. What fun you had.
ReplyDeleteThere was plenty of space for all eleven of us! Time together is a gift . . .
DeleteWhat a great weekend and the history lesson is quite amazing. Those final words were gripping.
ReplyDeleteThe boy is 2?! Stop me now. You know my refrain. Now Kati will begin to know what her mother and grandmother, etc., are talking about. He's so darling!
It was such an inspiring story. There is always something new to learn!
DeleteTwo. years. old. (Same refrain here . . . all the time!)
Don't know what happens that I start to type a comment, then it looks like the computer eats them. Don't know if this will be a duplicate or not. Your family vacation pictures look fun, and the air bnb you stayed in looks terrific, and comfortable. Caleb's growing up! I was around here for his very first (the original) birth day. Two years already!?!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that you have been having difficulty with commenting. Ugh. And I am not at all techie, so I have no suggestions or remedies. This comment is here though, so yay! We did enjoy our vacation and the Airbnb. It was especially fun to have so much together time!
DeleteOh my goodness. Those two years went fast. I can't believe that Caleb is two, and I can't believe that we've been friends for that long!
