I shared this poem in the first year of my blog (2009!), but it remains one of my favorites. On this day of remembering the unfathomable sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, it feels like a good time to be reminded that His followers also bear scars, like their Master.
Hast Thou No Scar?
by Amy CarmichaelHast thou no scar?
No hidden scar on foot, or side or hand?
I hear thee sung as mighty in the land,
I hear them hail thy bright ascendant star.
Hast thou no scar?
Hast thou no wound?
Yet I was wounded by the archers, spent,
Leaned me against a tree to die; and rent
By ravening beasts that compassed me, I swooned;
Hast thou no wound?
No wound? No scar?
Yet, as the master shall the servant be
And pierced are the feet that follow Me;
But thine are whole: can he have followed far
Who has nor wound nor scar?
Reminds me of the Farrell and Farrell song...
ReplyDeleteLearn to love those old scars
For the strength they bring to you
Reminders that wounds are a part of His plan for you
Reminders that healing is a part of His plan for you...
Praying that things have settled down and that you and yours
have a blessed, wonderful Easter.
Those are good lyrics, Vee! I was not familiar with the song, so thank you for sharing it.

ReplyDeleteI missed this post.
ReplyDeleteAlways in awe of what the Lord was willing to endure for me!
this beauty of a poem was shared on a recent elisabeth elliott radio broadcast. i'm thankful you shared it as well so i can read the words and write them down. thank you so much. hugs.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I popped in here to see this post. A very thoughtful poem. While this isn't what the poem refers to, as I look ahead to yet another unplanned and unwanted surgery, scars are very much on my mind. While the battle isn't exactly spiritual, the scars our bodies bear from ailments or injuries can still turn our minds to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus. Thank you for putting me in mind of that, Cheryl.
ReplyDeletejust recently i listened to an elisabeth elliot podcast in which she shared this poem in its entirety. reading it now on your blog i'm encouraged to slow down and drink in the words. thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh Cheryl, I was doing a little catch up and learned of your father. Though I don't need to know the details, my heart is with you in my prayers, dear one. Your True Love post is beautiful, my friend. I pray that peaceful days are yours.
