When I lose my blogging mojo, I find that a Five on Friday is a good way to just hop back into Blogland without a lot of explanations or fanfare. So here we go . . .

I happily welcomed November! It is one of my favorite months. It's cozy and comforting and filled with thanksgiving.

When November arrives, I start playing my Thanksgiving playlist on Spotify. Around the house. In the car. While I am cooking. While we are eating Thanksgiving dinner, of course. I try to include a little something for everybody. For the little ones, there is Alvin and the Chipmunks' rendition of "Over the River and Through the Woods" and Steve Green's "Give Thanks to the Lord" from one of his Hide 'Em In Your Heart albums. There is a Crowder song for my daughter. Some Michael Card for my son. There are traditional songs like "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" (which I remember learning in elementary school) and newer songs like Matt Boswell's "O Give Thanks."
If you have a Spotify account, you can click on the image of my playlist below to listen.

I also welcome November with fall foods. This week I made some pumpkin butter (recipe ~ here ~) which is so yummy on hot biscuits or toast. It's easy to make and it fills the house with the spicy aroma of fall.

For this week's Bible study, I went November-y with cranberry streusel muffins. The streusel topping is the same one that I use in ~ this ~ recipe, but the muffin itself is a bit different. Maybe you'd like to try them?
Toss the cranberries with 1 tablespoon of dry ingredients and set aside.

Melt butter. Off heat, stir in milk and egg.
Stir butter mixture into dry ingredients and, when well-mixed, stir in cranberries.

This past year, our ladies' Sunday School class has chosen a Bible verse each month to memorize. I have created iPhone wallpaper for some of those verses to aid in our memorization. It is helpful to have that little reminder each time you pick up your phone! Here is November's wallpaper:

What a lovely post! I will listen to some of your choice music and have copied the muffin recipe to make. Thank you for such an inspiring thought of memorizing a Bible verse each month. Julianna
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Julianna, for stopping by and for your kind words! Our group of ladies has really enjoyed memorizing Bible verses!
DeleteYour muffin recipe looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI would love to share one (or a bunch) with you as you recover, Barbara!
DeleteLovely, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by!
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly, Sandi!
DeleteAh, a post! This is like the old days! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love your five! Am now happily listening to your Spotify playlist and just may make those muffins for my ladies Bible Study on Monday. I just have to get some cranberries...
Haha! It IS like the old days, Deanna! 😂 And I am glad that you enjoyed my "five" today. I hope you and your Bible study ladies enjoy the muffins!
DeleteLovely post, Cheryl, thank you. Loved your Five on Friday! That muffin recipe looks delicious - going to try it. And the pumpkin butter, oh my, I can imagine how it filled the air with autumn's spicy fragrance as it simmered away.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to have you stop by today, Brenda! I miss blogging regularly, but that is just how life is rolling these days. So it is encouraging to me to have friends come and visit when I do show up! :)
DeleteThank you for your always-encouraging words! I hope you love the muffins! Happy November to you, friend!
Love your November dishes and your wallpaper creation. :) Thanks for the list of music. I don't have spotify but I'm listening to the Boswell O give thanks on youtube while I type here. I'm still in the olden habit of cd's instead of spotify for my daily house music. Put my 5 cd's in and crank it up on the old fashioned cd player system. :) Have a beautiful November weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ellen! November dishes make me smile! I have tried to downsize my dish collection as I use Blue Willow for everyday and most occasions. But I just can't let go of the brown transfer ware!
DeleteThere is nothing wrong with "old school" when it works well! The main thing is having access to the music you want to hear!
Yes, to Ellen B's comment on CD's. Did you know that they are now making portable mini CD players? Some old things are still pretty wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a verse on your phone. My mother-in- law used to write music to verses (Dad was a Pastor), so when I saw your verse for this month, I started singing the verse! I "liked" and added your Thanksgiving music list to my Spotify list. Yes, we do like some of the same music.
Thanks for sharing lovely photos and thoughts.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I just saw an ad just this past week for a mini CD player, but that was new to me! I did purchase a cassette player for Bekah's birthday last year so that she could play some old cassettes. (That really is old school!)
DeleteI love that you were singing the verse! To me, music is absolutely the most effective way to memorize Scripture because once you know a song you never forget it. I have come across cantatas or individual songs that I learned 40 years ago, and I can sing along as if it had been yesterday. We are wonderfully and fearfully made!
Thanks for visiting! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
What a lovely five on Friday, Cheryl. Streusal-topped muffins are the best! I regret getting rid of our CD player as I much prefer listening that way to Spotify. We do have a Bose speaker, but it's just not the same. Your music selection sounds thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteSince we had Thanksgiving in October, I'm beginning to think about Christmas. No music quite yet, but some gift buying and mental planning of menus.
I wish you a most delightful remainder of November and hope to see more posts.
