As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Vintage Kitchen Birthday Party

I love to plan theme parties! Most of the time, we plan for weeks, collecting just the right touches to fit our chosen theme.  This year's Triple Birthday Celebration, however, came together in a few hours

On Sunday morning, I began to set the table for the afternoon party.

I began with these paper napkins and plates that I had purchased at Hobby Lobby.

Ron brought in a bunch of our limelight hydrangeas.  I decided to put them in my antique ironstone pitcher the pitcher I bought on clearance at Target...and that is when the inspiration hit!

The hobnail edge on the pitcher made me think of a "vintage" kitchen.

Hmmmmmmmm....

I rummaged through my fabric stash and found a piece of gingham--another clearance item, this one purchased at Walmart for $1.00 per yard.  I used my pinking shears to cut out a square.  No time (or need) to hem.

Then I remembered bookmarking these recipe cards on my computer "favorites,"  so I printed out a few for party favors.  (The children loved them as much as the adults did!)

I pulled out some true vintage kitchen tools that I have collected over the years.  I placed them on the table to decorate, but we also had fun trying to guess the purpose of each tool.

I have been purchasing these bottled sodas for summer entertaining, so I decided to move some of them to the party table to add some more vintage ambience.

When I went upstairs to get dressed for church, I glimpsed this old bowl in Kati's room.  I'm sure she didn't mind that I darted in, dumped her summer seashell display onto her table, and borrowed her bowl for candy.  Thank you, Kati!  ~wink~  (If I had known my theme ahead of time, I would have purchased vintage candies like Red Hots or Sugar Babies or Tootsie Pops.)

Before the guests arrived for lunch, Kati did a Google search for 1930's music, loaded a selection of songs on Grooveshark...

...and we were ready for the Vintage Kitchen Triple Birthday Celebration to begin!

  1. What a fun party! I love the pattern on the plates and napkins you found, I wish I had a hobby lobby nearby! what a perfect theme, and how fun that you already had most of the things on hand. Looks like the perfect party to me!

  2. How did I miss this? You are adorable... of course that means so am I! ;)

You 'plan' a party just like I do... and personally, I think I have just as much fun as the party fussers with way less worry and great results!

I love it all Cheryl... down to Kati's stolen bowl!

    Blessings, Debbie
