On the Calendar

For the past several years, Nora Murphy Country House has offered a free monthly calendar to use as a computer background or lock screen, and I have enjoyed that gift each month. This year, however, there is no monthly calendar available on the website, so I decided to create one for myself.

Here is February's . . .

This first full week of February has been "full" indeed! Whew!

A few highlights:

My mom had cataract surgery at the beginning of the week. Everything went well and Mom is seeing a difference already. Truly, the most difficult part of the whole thing (for me anyway) was getting up at o'dark thirty to be at the surgery center at 6:05 am!

It was my week to teach our ESL class. I am nervous every time, but I love it. It is so rewarding!

I provided taxi service for a grandson to get to work one day. His family is down one vehicle temporarily and there was a scheduling hitch. I am always happy to fill in when I can because it offers some one-on-one time with a grand.

There was a ladies' brunch at church this morning to kick off another year of reading the Word together. It was a time of sweet fellowship and encouragement.

Work on the stairwell makeover continued this week.

The new light is up.

Alas, it looks as if the stairs themselves are going to be more work than anticipated.
There is some sort of adhesive on all but the very bottom tread which will have to be removed before finishing them.

And work on the sunroom has begun! So exciting!

How has your calendar been?

  1. What a lovely calendar page, Cheryl. Love those felted circles. Your renovations are coming along - the sunroom work looks exciting.

Our days are quiet and pleasant. Today the sun shines and the birds are busy at the feeders. I've been reading, walking indoors (walkways have been so icy) along with a lovely video instructor, doing a bit of spring cleaning, and playing Scrabble with Rick most afternoons when we have afternoon tea. Plans and prep are underway to paint our bedroom and ensuite - looking forward to fresh colours which have been 99% chosen but we're still doing a final ponder before getting the paint (in the teal blue family "Caribe" for the bathroom with "Varnished Ivory" in the bedroom).

Hope you have a beautiful week ahead. xo

    1. Your days sound quite lovely, with a just-right balance of relaxation and productivity. I enjoy Scrabble so that sounds like a treat to look forward to each afternoon. Good idea to ponder before painting! It sounds like a pretty and calming color scheme. I hope you will share photos at some point.

Wishing a beautiful week to you too!

  2. I love your calendar page, Cheryl. And the work going on at your house is very exciting.

It's been relatively quiet here. I spent a few hours with oldest son on Friday - that can make a week for me! :) But mostly my time right now is still getting my home in order. It doesn't look bad to anyone dropping by, but I don't feel quite settled yet. The only thing on my calendar this upcoming week is taking a meal to a friend (which will require a trip to the grocery store). I'm mostly enjoying the quiet of this season we're in. Soon enough, I think it will start bustling here and I'll be finding new things outside to wear me out, no doubt.

    1. So happy that you had some treasured time with your son! That time is gold, isn't it? Oh boy . . . it takes a while to get settled into a new place. It did for me, and I had a 22-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old daughter to help me get it all together. (Truth be told, I still move things about from time to time to make better sense of things.) I do think that "quiet" is generally good!

  3. Oh boy! Lots happening at the Pineapple House! Exciting times. Great new light! Sorry about that adhesive. OYE! This past week was filled to the gills. Our daughter in law is traveling to our side of the mountains tomorrow to stay with our daughter in law here and help her with our grands while their daddy is working elsewhere for a month. Looking forward to spending time with them, too.
Glad you could help out with your mom and grandson. Who's putting all the drops in your mom's eye?? Blessings.

    1. Thanks Ellen! I think it is wonderful that your one daughter-in-law is coming to help the other . . . such a beautiful thing to see families caring for one another and serving in love!

I helped Mom with her eye drops for several days, and then she tried a "trade secret" that a lady at the ophthalmologist's office shared with us and it worked great! You recline, close your eye, and put a drop in the corner near the tear duct. Then you open your eye and allow the drop to run into the eye, "blink blink blink," and then close the eye. That prevents the falling drop and subsequent blink just before it gets in!

      Blessings back to you!

  4. Wonderful that your mom is seeing much better than before. I serve as chauffeur weekly for my grands. I am glad for it as, otherwise, I don't see them. Yay for progress on your cellarway and sunporch. All exciting in advance of spring and summer.

    1. I am very grateful for Mom's successful surgery, as well as the prep and recovery parts! Yes, take advantage of the moments with the grands when you have a chance!

We like to get a jump start on indoor house projects in the winter . . . before the outdoor activities/work begin again. Of course, we were not in control of the timing for the sunroom, but we're glad to have had a few warmer days last week enabling them to begin work. We are looking forward to using the sunroom this year!

    1. Thanks, Deanna!

Cleaning out your mother-in-law's house sounds daunting, but hopefully many hands are making light work. I hope that the memories and time with family are comforting.

  6. Your calendar is beautiful with the wool pennies in the background. It looks very much your style!

It's been busy around here. I started teaching again two weeks ago - 2 classes each day in the afternoons, just for this semester, then I'll re-retire! To complicate things our youngest daughter injured her back and has been in intense pain, so I've been trying to help out in the mornings. It makes for very full days.

Glad your mom's cataract surgery went well.

    1. Thank you, Lorrie!

Indeed, you have been quite busy! Coming (temporarily) out of retirement and helping your daughter is a lot. So thankful that the Lord provides grace for the day! I pray that your daughter recovers quickly, poor thing!

  7. Oh boy about that adhesive. Just when you think something is going to be easy. Your new chandelier is beautiful. We were looking at all the beautiful light fixtures at Home Depot this weekend. It's so tempting to replace everything, even if they don't need replacing. We took my mom for cataract surgery a few years ago too. Why does it have to be so early? And to top it off it was 26 degrees. But it needed to be done. Glad your mom is seeing the difference already.

    1. I know. That adhesive. Ugh. Oh well . . . it is slowing the project down a bit, but Ron is tackling it two steps at a time and it's going okay.

And, yes! So early and I am a night owl, not a morning person. It was even harder for Mom who doesn't move so quickly. The lights weren't even on in the building when we arrived! 🙃

  8. Your basement entrance sure is light and bright now, looks nice with that trim color. Yes, I remember Nora Murphy's calendars, I used them also. Your February one is lovely.
Slow days here, I'm working on a quilt for the Linus Project (blankets for children in the hospital). I just learned a new quilt block, so that's exciting for me!
We took the grandsons to a glow in the dark putt-putt place on Saturday, to help with the cabin fever. Then a Wendy's frosty afterwards...even though it was snowing outside. Fun times.

    1. Thanks, Melissa! I think your slow days sound just right. Kudos to you for learning a new quilt block and for giving your time and talents for such a worthy cause! Sounds like good times with your grandsons! I've never heard of a glow in the dark putt-putt place. I'll bet they enjoyed it!

  9. Well first off, thanks for the desktop wallpaper, that was very thoughtful. I used to follow you before but I've been a very sad blogger for the last couple years but I'm back! Looks like I have some catching up to do.

    1. You're quite welcome! I need to get to work on one for March . . .

Blogging (like many other things in life) ebbs and flows. No worries! I am always catching up!
