As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Two Fridays for Tradition


Two Fridays in a row, we took some time for beloved Christmas traditions.

One Friday, we had our annual Girls' Day Out, a simple affair that involves holiday coffees, holiday magazines, book browsing, and girl talk. 

Two eggnog lattes and an eggnog Frap :)

Do you see that Kati and Bekah both chose the same magazine to peruse?



On the next Friday, Bekah and Maddie were invited to their annual Christmas luncheon at Gammy's house.

They began the day with homemade hot chocolate . . .

. . .  and went home with (among other things) these darling peppermint fudge Mouse Kings! Aren't they just too cute?



Simple traditions that are worth holding on to! Do you have any of those?

    Those are wonderful traditions to keep going. Sweet. Fun before and after photos of the girls with their grandmother. Those fudge mouse kings are the cutest! Hope you have a lovely weekend! We decided late last night to try driving today over the pass to our kids' home in eastern Washington for a couple of nights. Yikes!

      I think so too, Elizabethd! This is my mom who is Bekah's grandmother and Maddie's great-grandmother! Doesn't she look young to be the great-grandmother of a 13-year-old?!

    I was thinking as I was reading your post how grown up your Bekah has become. The last photo is a darling comparison of your daughter and granddaughter not that long ago.
    Your mother has a sweet tradition with her granddaughters. As well as you and your daughters. And the little Mouse Kings fudge looks divine. By the way, we are going to a Christmas party and I'm taking your Marry Me Toffee. It's divine as well! ♥

      Isn't it amazing how quickly children grow? How do they go from looking like little ones to looking like young ladies in just a few short years?! I think Mom and the girls all look forward to this special day together each year.

    Your mother has a unique "grandmother" name. I like it. (My sister is thinking what her grandmother name might be. She thinks she'll allow the grandbaby to decide for himself. I find that impractical.)

    Maddie has very nearly caught up with Bekah in height. It is lovely that your mother enjoys this yearly event with her grand and great. It is also lovely that they enjoy it as well. That fudge is darling! And I do love the photo of the hot chocolate with the golden vapors rising. ☺

      Choosing a grandmother name can be daunting, because you know it's for keeps! I have always loved Mom's! When I was pregnant with Kristin (my first baby, Mom's first grandbaby), Mom and I were shopping and looking at baby things. We saw a little book (I think it was some sort of memory book or photo album) in which a little bear cub was calling his grandmother "Gammy." Mom loved that and chose it for her grandmother name!

    Lovely photos, Cheryl...your girls are beautiful. I think the peppermint fudge mice are just the cutest and looks tasty, too. My daughter and I always have a day for shopping before Christmas and a new tradition is going to the Amish country to buy candy, breads and a pie or two for Christmas. They have so many yummy treats to choose from and it saves me a lot of work! Love that. Have a nice week!

    Loving your holiday traditions and that you set aside the time to make sure they happen. How dear is the photo of the girls when they were little at the annual Christmas luncheon with Gammie. Too adorable!
