We brought our kitchen island from The Farmhouse when we moved to Pineapple House five-and-a-half years ago. Ron had made it from wood that came from a chicken house on his parents' farm, so it had special meaning to us, but it didn't really work well in this kitchen, as much as we wanted it to.

Happy ending for the island: Kati and Andrew had the perfect spot for the island in their kitchen, so Ron and Bekah hauled it down South when they came to meet Baby Ellie! (Kati plans to paint the base another color to better blend in with their own things, but she's been a little busy the past few months. ~wink~)

In July, I came home from my weeks at Kati's to an empty space in the kitchen and there were plans for Ron to build a kitchen table. But a few days later, I found this antique pine hutch table and the four ladderbacks on Facebook Marketplace for an amazing price! I texted Ron at work and he texted back, "Go for it!"
It is the table I have always wanted! I loved a hutch table the first time I ever saw one in Country Living magazine. When we were raising our family, we needed a bigger table and there was nowhere to put a smaller one (just because I liked it). But now we have the perfect space for it, and it suits our needs here much better than the island did.
- The three of us eat many of our meals here.
- There are comfortable places to sit for those who want to hang out with the cook. (We had a couple of bar stools for the island, but there was nowhere to put your legs.)
- At Pineapple House, the main function of the island was serving (mostly hors d'oeuvres), and I can easily serve from the table.
- It actually feels more spacious at this end of the kitchen.
I am head-over-heels for this table! And I thank the Lord for this gift!
It’s so lovely and perfect in your kitchen! Does the tabletop tilt?
ReplyDeleteYes, it does! Although I doubt that I will ever use it like that, I love that it tilts.
DeleteMaybe I should take a picture of it tilted and add it to the end of the post . . .
Yes, please do!
DeleteI will do it on the next sunny day (which will likely be Wednesday). :)
DeleteWhat a great find - beautiful table and chairs that perfectly fit your style.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lorrie! It feels like they were made for that spot!
DeletePerfect! The chairs are so elegant.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Barbara!
DeleteIt is lovely there! Your new table that I have never even heard of before...must do some exploring when I leave here,
ReplyDeleteI have a new table as well. So happy to have it and I do consider it a gift from The Lord. It has three leaves so extends well out and can comfortably seat six. I am taking it for a whirl on Laurel's birthday as she has requested a spaghetti and meatballs supper. Do you suppose I can possibly-ossibly get some photos for a post? This remains to be seen.
So glad that Kati inherited her father's handiwork. It looks right at home in her kitchen.
Thank you, Vee! Yes, I feel that it is a win-win for Kati to have the island and the perfect spot for it.
DeleteI am excited about your new table which was also a gift from The Lord! It will be so special to use it for Laurel's birthday dinner! (Your "possibly-ossibly" made me smile. Very E. B. White-ish. 😊)
cheryl..
ReplyDeletei love that your daughter south of you now lovingly owns that beautiful piece of furniture (originally typed fun-iture and it fits too). the replacement piece(s) are beautiful and so fitting of the space and your home. i'd love to have cup of coffee and cookie in that setting. hope your day is lovely in every way.
Love that: fun-iture . . . and I also love that it is in her house. It would be such a treat to share a cuppa and a cookie here in my kitchen! And a long chat too!
DeleteI love your kitchen finds. What a gorgeous table and chairs. I love FB Marketplace. I have found a few treasures for great prices on it. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of these new finds, Cheryl. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brenda! FB Marketplace has rewards for the diligent shopper! Sometimes it takes a while to find the "right" thing, but that's all part of the experience, isn't it?
DeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sandi!
DeleteI'm so happy for you, Cheryl! The table and chairs were meant to be in your kitchen. Reminds me of a table that my great-grandparents had. The cane ladder back chairs are perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to see The Farmhouse again. How can it be 5 1/2 years ago you moved to Pineapple House? How nice to see the island in Kati's home. I'm sure it means a lot to have her dad's handmade piece with such history.
Thank you, Martha Ellen! Oh my goodness . . . I have no idea how it can have been 5 1/2 years already! So much has happened in those years, and yet it seems like yesterday. I, too, love that Kati has the island in her home!
DeleteThat's my kind of table and I too, have always loved the ladderback chairs. I don't have any, and I doubt if at this time I would ever find them or replace my others but they sure look nice. I love your kitchens - so nice.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see your hutch table! (Or did you mean that you, like me, have admired and wished for one?) Thanks for your kind words, Debby!
DeleteSo nice! I’m a fan of your decorating style.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rhonda!
DeleteSo perfect for that space and how sweet that it was something you wanted and it became available at a good price. I love purchases like this that seem to fit just right. Enjoy enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ellen! I was so excited to discover the listing for the table and chairs, my fingers practically tripped over themselves as I typed a message to the seller! 😄
DeleteI absolutely love that table and the four ladderback chairs, and it fits perfectly in that corner. Hopefully the chairs are comfortable, if not you could always add some cushions. Glad Kati was able to take the island. Lucky girl, it's a nice piece.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I do plan to try a cushion in at least one. Everyone else thinks that they are perfectly comfortable, but my hips complain from time to time.
DeleteI'm so glad that Kati was able to take the island. Otherwise, we probably would still be using it. I do love a piece with a story!
I LOVE your new old table and chairs! It makes a beautiful spot, and everything looks in great condition. It really does look perfect there, and I can see how it feels more spacious. Well done! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Becki! I really do feel like it was a gift!
DeleteI absolutely love your new table, Cheryl, as one who enjoys antiques you certainly have a winner here! I often wonder of the stories these antiques could tell! How wonderful that the island has a new home with a family member to love and cherish its beginning and memories!
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed catching up with your previous posts, your family is so precious, and those new grand babies are so adorable. I am curious as to what project Ron worked on!
You always show how to make a house a home, and you have taught your daughters so well! I always find encouragement when I visit!
Thank you for sharing, I am so sorry I haven't been blogging lately just way busy, and dealing computer issues!
Blessings,
Sue
No apologies, Sue! We blog when we can and it's all good!
DeleteI do thank you for taking time to visit me here. Thanks for loving my table as I do, and for all of your kind words and encouragement. Our family is certainly a wonderful gift!
Ron's project was a new lamp post. I am working on a blog post about some of the outside improvements we have made in the past months, but you know how that goes. I'll finish it someday soon, I hope!
Cheryl, I loved the island so much, but now I love the new table and chairs! Glad your daughter had a place for the island and that you found the perfect replacement for that spot. I had never heard of a hutch table before.
ReplyDeleteThen you echoed my own feelings about the island and the table and chairs, Jean! I'm glad I went with my gut and chose what worked best within the space, but I am also very glad that Kati has the island!
