As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Sunday Snapshots: Strawberries and Pictures

Recipe

The theme this Sunday: STRAWBERRIES!

The girls and I picked oodles of strawberries from our garden this week, and I suppose we had strawberries on the brain.

I put out the strawberry hand soap on the bathroom sink.

I made a spinach/strawberry salad to accompany our grilled burgers and hot dogs.  (Here it is sans the blue cheese, pecans, and raspberry vinaigrette.)

Kristin brought some chunks of fresh pineapple, and we added some strawberries, of course.

Kati made two strawberry pies yesterday.  One was for dessert this afternoon.  The other was to take to Ron's mom's house when we visited this evening.  Yum!

The other theme of the day: Pictures!

Kristin and Brian were subjected to all 1033 of our vacation pictures.  We spent so much time looking at pictures and telling our stories, that I didn't even take any pictures of the dear people in our house today.  I will have to record the moments in my mind instead...from the moment they all came in the back door for the first time in three weeks, to Alaine's sweet smile and enthusiastic wave as their van left our driveway.

  2. It IS rare for you not to have "people pictures".....

We had strawberries, too. Frozen though, not fresh. The fresh ones were really expensive in the stores last week....so I pulled out some from our freezer and made a jello salad that included crushed pineapple, cool whip, and buttermilk. (One of my favorites, if I have to use jello...)

I forgot all about strawberry pie until I saw your picture! I won't rest until I have some now.

  3. Perhaps your nearby family took this lack of picture taking as a welcome break. I think that I will purposely not take my camera today as I'm actually hearing sighs when I break it out. The remembering does get difficult without it, though. Very.

Ohhhhh the strawberries! And I see that you raise them yourselves. They look sweet and delicious and how you've used them is stretching my thinking. I'm in charge of baking for today...I was thinking cookies. Hmmm...

    A wonderful day today...

  6. Strawberries!

We got our first ripe one this week! We get more every year but still don't grow enough to satisfy our LOVE of fresh, local berries.

Thankfully, we found a pick your own place for very little money! We pick lots of quarts!

Glad you had such a great day yesterday!

  8. Cheryl, those strawberries look so plump and juicy and sweet. Any secrets on growing them? I bought plants two years ago and a special planter, nothing happened! I guess it is too late to look for plants now. I wish I could call 1-800-KATIBAKES and order a pie. ;-) xo

  9. Oh yum yum! I love strawberry pie. We have had them on salad lately, too, but no pie for us. Must change that. :)

  10. Oh how delicious looking is that pie! We have a few more weeks before there are any ripe strawberries here. You are making my mouth water!

  11. He couldn't see her through the tinted window, but as we arrived, Alaine was waving enthusiastically at Papa who was out in the yard. :-)

  12. This funky diet that I'm on has me glowing red! Strawberries (well, berries of every kind) are freebies for me and with the nice price on strawberries this time of year I am feasting. :)

    Blessings, Debbie
