The celebrations continue...
Christmas punch and hors d'oeuvres were waiting on the island. A pot of soup simmered on the stove; homemade bread and salad fixings paraded down the countertop, as we all awaited the arrival of our dear friends, the Rabes. "We" were the four of us and our daughter Kristin and her family. On this visit, "the Rabes" were Tim and Deanna, Rachel, Sarah, and Kyle, as well as Tim's sweet mama who is visiting from Florida.

And what a delightful day we had!
After a few moments of shyness, Ben's silliness broke the ice for the children. Or was it the bin of Lego? Whatever it was, they all played together happily until it was time for Kristin's family to leave.
With the children happy, we adults entertained ourselves with lots of conversation...all together, in small groups, one-on-one. With a little prompting, Tim's mom told us stories. What fun! She has lived a very full life and we loved hearing snippets. "Grammy" is a young 93 years old; she even joined the young adults in a game of Mexican Trains!

How the hours flew by! They always fly when we're sharing time together.
Thank you, dear Rabes, for taking a little road trip to share a Christmas visit with us! A visit with kindred spirits is always refreshing!
Your photos are so wonderful! I have some too, but not as good! It was such a delightful day! The hours do fly! My dear Mother in Law said on the way home "Thank you for such a good day. They are such lovely people and their home is warm and homey." She had so much fun!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a delightful day. The warmth of your family, the warm and comforting home, the delightful food - it was a gift to our family once again! Thank you for inviting us.
Much love
Deanna
Enjoyed getting a glimpse into this visit. We used to play Mexican Train with my mom and step dad. Haven't played in a quite a while. Glad you enjoyed your time with these sweet friends.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of what looks like a lovely holiday gathering...and Happy New Year too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a special time for all of you. Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your day together. Your beautiful descriptive writing puts us right there. I'm thinking too what a delight for Tim's mom.
ReplyDeleteMexican Trains is our favorite game! Your table settings are so pretty and the food looks delicious. I'm borrowing on your ideas if you won't mind...
ReplyDeleteIt looks cozy and fun! So glad that Kyle found some friends. He was wondering a few years ago where "the kids" were. =D What a fun time for Tim's sweet mom, too. I am sure that her stories are enthralling. I know nothing of this Mexican Train game.
ReplyDelete93! That's great. Looks like the best kind of gathering with lots of different activities going on for young and old.
