As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Beginning a New Chapter

Ron is retiring
and yesterday was his last day at the office!

In my last post, I shared some pictures that were taken at a family gathering and I promised to come back and tell you more about that gathering.

It was a retirement celebration for Ron!

Even though it was a few weeks before his official retirement, we decided to celebrate when all of the children and grandchildren would be here. Kati and family arrived on Thursday, Ryan and family arrived on Friday, and on Saturday, August 9th, we all gathered (children and grandchildren, Ron's siblings and spouses, and my mom and sister) to celebrate.

(Some photos by me, some by my sister-in-law Pat, and some by Bekah's friend Julie who we hired to do the family photos.)

Ron told stories about his work life, sharing how God has directed his path through the years. (Proverbs 3:4, 5)

Bekah led us in a game of "Name That Tune," using many of the songs on Ron's Spotify playlist. 🎶

Ryan, Nora, and Eve entertained us!

We even had a chance to sing along! Click ~ here ~ if you want to sing along with us!

Side story about the cake:
Ron picked it up for me on the morning of the party. When he brought it home, I opened the box to take a peek and  << oh no >> the cake said "Happy Retirement R-O-N-N-Y." Oh my goodness.

Sarah said, "I think we can fix this." So Sarah guided and Bekah did the hands-on part and some watched and gave moral support. . . and they created an "I-E" out of that "Y" and you'd never know that a mistake had been made! Great job, girls!

Whew!

Now, back to the party. Cake is served!

You might see a few blue smiles here! (Oops . . . before the photographer arrived to do the family photos! Teeth had to be re-brushed and a few garments had to be spot-cleaned.)

Little girls comparing their June bugs. 🪲😊

So much cuteness!

Earlier this week, Ron's company honored him with a lovely luncheon, gifts, funny stories, and words of appreciation. They invited local family, as well as co-workers from the present and the past. It was heart-warming!

So now Ron is retired and we begin a new chapter of life. It seemed to get here faster than either of us anticipated, but we look forward to what is ahead.

Thank you, Ron, for being a faithful provider for our family for all of these years! God has been good to us and has always met our needs!

  2. How exciting. Your photos show the joy and the celebratory atmosphere of this special day for Ron. I was especially taken by the line you shared of how he "told stories about his work life, sharing how God has directed his path through the years. (Proverbs 3:4, 5)". I was just recently looking back at my own working life and could see how He had also directed my path through the years (as I trusted the same proverb). Congratulations to Ron. And happy wishes for beautiful days ahead. Thanks, Cheryl! xo

  3. Congratulations to Ron on his retirement. He was celebrated well at home and at the workplace. What a treat that the whole family could gather earlier in August. I can only imagine how hard it is to get all of yours together! Seeing all the projects that he has completed over the years I'm sure he'll enjoy having the time to do even more. God bless the retirement with good things that come down from the Father!

    1. It is increasingly difficult to gather everyone . . . distance, number of people, grandchildren growing up, work schedules . . . and so it is such a gift when everyone is in one place at one time! It was a good reason to gather, and yes, Ron was well celebrated!

You're right. Ron is a Project Man! He has several on his list and the list keeps growing. I don't think he will be bored!

Thank you for that blessing! The Father's gifts are good!

  4. What a happy time for all of the family! Yes, it's very difficult to find a time for so many family members to get together anymore. But we try our best to make sure that we still get together and try to instill "one more time" all of those Biblical moments/memories/how God brought us through the good and bad times.
    Congratulations to your husband!

    1. I like that, Melissa . . . that "one more time" idea!

  5. Congratulations to Ron on his retirement. What a wonderful collection of happy faces you've shown us. I'm glad Ron was well celebrated by his family and co-workers. When my husband retired our children were invited to the affair, and it was so special to have them hear what Tim's co-workers had to say about him.

Having projects helps one adjust to retirement. It's been two years for us, and Tim said recently that he thinks he is beginning to settle in. May you both be blessed with God's faithful goodness in the coming years.
