As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Fig-guh

Kati (perusing a cookbook): This looks good..."Fig and Honey Cream Gallette."

Bekah: I hate figs!

Me: How do you know, Bekah?

Bekah: Because. Fig-guh (pronouncing the “g” quite distinctly). I never did like “g”s very much.

Unwittingly, Kati and I snicker.

Bekah: Well, Gavin starts with “g” and that’s okay. And gift, and glitter. But a “g” at the end of a word—guh (again pronouncing distinctly)—I just don’t like.

(Who knew -guh- had a flavor?)

  1. How cute, I love figs, good for Kati trying new things. You have to post if she makes it and tries it.

  2. Oh Bekah, how clever. Hug also ends with a "guh" and I kind of like those. How about you? (The chocolate Hershey's Hugs are awesome!)

  3. Bekah! And numbers have a gender, too, right?

  4. Barbara, I'll let you know if Kati tries it.

Jodi, Bekah says she does like hugs. I guess there are exceptions to the "guh" rule. ;-)

Kristin, ha! Bekah is full of new insights. I have learned that "guh" doesn't taste good, that numbers have a gender (*never* would have figured that one out!), and that ladybugs have a smell!

  5. Cheryl, I am learning a lot about Bekah through your blog postings. She is quite the little character, isn't she? :-) I think it's so amazing that God has made each of us so differently, with our own unique personalities and 'quirks'. Never in a million years would I have given any thought to a "guh" at the end of a word. Bet I'll give it some thought now, though. Another endearing and smile-provoking posting from you. Keep 'em coming.
