As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

{31 Days of Hospitality} Day 6 ~ A "Go To" Hors d'Oeuvre Recipe

Not to Impress, But to Bless

I promised to share one of my "go to" appetizer recipes with you today.

Did I also tell that it is easy?  It is!

I began by making a Faux Goat Cheese Log.  (You can make the cheese log a day or two ahead.)  I added crackers, red grapes, and a few sprigs of rosemary from my herb garden.  (You could add whatever herb you have.  Or whatever your market has.  Or you could leave it off; it is only a garnish.) Then I arranged it all on a square white plate and returned to my dinner preparations.

(FAUX) GOAT CHEESE LOG

Ingredients:
  • 4 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 4 ounces crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 teaspoons coarsely ground pepper (or 2 teaspoons chopped parsley)

Directions:
  1. Beat the cheeses together with an electric mixer until smooth.
  2. Shape cheese mixture into a log shape.
  3. Roll log in ground pepper (or parsley).
  4. Wrap in waxed paper and chill for several hours.

Doesn't that sound simple?

  6. Now that is totally new to me..."faux" goat cheese! Great idea I'll have to try. I always have feta on hand, and I almost always have cream cheese, too... I love goat cheese, but only buy it occasionally!
