As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

gather. {still life photos}

When Bekah (13) asked if she could arrange a vignette on the kitchen island, I told her to do it. I like to encourage my children's creative efforts in the home. It's great practice for them to learn to care for their future homes...and their touches of art and beauty delight our family now!

After I saw her display, I thought of this month's photo challenge: Still Life.  I asked Bekah if she could set up her vignette out on the patio to take advantage of the natural light. Then we both took our cameras out and snapped up a storm!

What? you ask. Another pumpkin?! (Insert sheepish grin.)

Here are a few of the shots I gathered...

(All photos were taken with my Canon Rebel T3. I edited in PicMonkey, increasing shadows.)

Here is one of Bekah's...

(Bekah's photo was taken with her Nikon Coolpix L320.)

  3. Beautiful vignette, and photos. Bekah is a chip off the old block! Well, not old block, you know what I mean! Today so far, I am gathering rain drops, lots of them, but about to head out to yet another birthday treat, nearly two months after the actual day! :-). So I will be gathering more precious memories.

  4. So seasonal and delightful. I especially like photo three. The oak leaves and acorns on a natural wood bacground. Full circle!

  6. Isn't it great to share a photo shoot session with your daughter! Such fun! I love the styling of each one of these setups and each photo gives a different perspective. I think the third one is my favorite! This challenge wasn't a difficult for you or Bekah because you are both naturals when it comes to still life photography.

  8. What a fun mother-daughter activity! All your photos evoke the loveliness of autumn.
    We're gathering round the table this evening to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. The house is filling up with good smells and soon the children and grandchildren will arrive.

  9. These are great! I think it's wonderful to encourage your daughter to 'decorate' and be creative.

  10. Great shots, by both of you!

    I spent part of today putting together a quilt top for a quilt for Kamryn. It will be her Christmas present. So I gathered fabric from my stash and sewed it together. Lovely day.

    We also gathered apples from our nearby orchard.

  12. Always fun to share photo sessions with the youngsters - they are usually so anxious to learn and share their pics. Bekah did well, as did you, and I must say I will never tire of pumpkins! In fact I made pumpkin soup for supper tonight, scrumptious!

  13. Bekah did an excellent job of setting up your still life shot. Those acorns are huge and beautiful. Are they real?!?
