As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

July Photo-a-Day Challenge {Week 2}

Another week's worth of daily photos...

day 8: drink
What do you know? I was at Starbucks on the day that their new cold brew coffee was debuted!
Of course, I had to try it.
It was fantabulous!!

day 9: calm
Pinky always makes her way up to Bekah's room when she goes to bed.
Here they are, hunkered down for the night.

day 10: busy
As busy as a bee.
This garden sculpture keeps vigil over the four o'clocks.
He once watched over the herb garden, but our grandson Ben was terrified of him,
so we moved him (the bee, not Ben) away from the back door.
Ben is no longer afraid of the bee, but he (the bee) seems happy among the four o'clocks.

day 11: fruit/vegetable
Cantaloupe, ready for slicing.
Just wondering...do you sprinkle yours with sugar, or with salt and pepper, or do you eat it plain?

day 12: soft
This is Shaun, our new-ish wool duster.
Bekah named him for the sheep in the British television show Shaun the Sheep.
All three of us want to use Shaun when we dust, so I plan to purchase a couple more, who will be named Shirley and Timmy (other characters on the show).

day 13: shadow
As I was on the go a good bit of Monday,
evening came and I thought that I had missed my opportunity to take a shadow pic.
Silly me. Lamplight also casts shadows, so here we are.

day 14: on the floor
My Aunt Robin painted this brick door stop, a diminutive replica of our house.

This week we have bought a chest of drawers for the bedroom, made blueberry butter, and gotten free food by dressing as cows for Chick-fil-A's "Cow Appreciation Day." (Some of us dressed as cows; some of us would not dress as cows unless Chick-fil-A was offering a million dollars!)

What  has been happening in your world this week?

  1. Enjoyed your photos! I never heard of putting anything on cantaloupe, I like it plain and ice cold! Love the brick!

  2. Good choices for the challenge. Ha--you would have a sb drink to show! I grew up with salt on cantelope and still use it if it isn't sweet, but usually they are sweet enough without help. Never thought of trying sugar! Put salt on grapefruit too.

  3. Wait...this is not Friday...my math must be way off...

    Wait...no pictures of the cows?

Wait...is that coffee the stuff they are talking about on the national news with double the caffeine?

Love the bee and glad that Ben is okay with her now.

I enjoy my lambswool duster and have never thought to name it. It extends and cleans very high places.

My parents had one of those bricks. Perhaps my sister has it now.

We got a watermelon this week that was a bit of a dud in the flavor department. I sprinkled sugar and salt on my servings and it was terrific!

    A happy day to you...

    1. I'll put a picture of the cows in my next post. (I can easily say that because I was not one of them.)

      Double the caffeine?!! Yikes!

  4. The quality of your photos always amaze me, Cheryl. They are magazine worthy! I'm with you on the dressing up as a cow for a free meal. Lol. My sister made a brick door stop for me like that--she painted Smith Point Light on it. ♥

  7. All great photos! We are getting a Starbuck's here which is under construction, I am not a huge coffee-holic and probably won't be a regular customer but everyone in town is so excited about it. I bought a huge cantaloupe at Walmart and it was one of the best I have eaten...with no salt or sugar for me anyway...the hub likes salt on his. And last but not least you won't believe this...Jim (hubby) to his group from the group home to Chick-fil-A Tuesday...each one dressed with some sort of cow-ish mask/costume. They ALL received free meals! Chick-fil-A is the best!!

  8. I sprinkle salt on my cantaloupe. Also on watermelon. Sugar is sprinkled on grapefruit.
I would have to get a whole lot more than free food to dress up as a cow! lol!
I love your doorstop. Your aunt is a very good painter!
Enjoy the rest of the week...it sure is going by fast! As they always do. :)

  9. Cheryl, I need to start taking pictures of something besides food! :D Funny about the cantaloupe. It would never occur to me to put anything at all on it, but my father liked to put black pepper on it.

  11. Thinking about my photos for the challenge. That drink looks very refreshing. I like my cantaloupe plain and with a nice scoop of peach ice cream in the middle. Very cute door stop! Have a wonderful weekend!
