As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Monday Morning Chat

Life is moving right along here at The Farmhouse! Ron is finishing his seventh week of IV antibiotics. For five of those weeks, we have been administering them at home, three times per day. Add to that two to three medical appointments per week. Add to that trying (unsuccessfully) to keep up with the business of educating my ninth grader. (We'll be hitting the books hard when life is "normal" again!) Add to that Christmas shopping (very little so far) and wrapping (what is that?). Okay, I'll stop there. But you can see why I am scarce here in Blogland.

This could be us...

Because I missed our Annual Mother/Daughter Christmas Shopping Trip this year, my sister Linda came one day last week and joined Mom, Bekah, and me for a local outing. We ate lunch together and then hit the mall, and I was back in time for 4:00 meds!

Also last week, my niece hosted a delightful luncheon for the ladies in our family. We ate scrumptious food, sang Christmas carols, and celebrated the new baby who is coming in January! I'll share more about that later this week.

We enjoyed a rather quiet weekend.  We finished decorating the house for Christmas. (Oh wait. We didn't finish. We haven't put the candles in the windows. Or a bow on the front door wreath. Almost...)

We took a little Sunday afternoon drive and managed to find some coffee.

And we did a little cooking. For Sunday evening supper, Ron and I made Smoky Sausage and Grits Casserole, a recipe that he had seen in the December issue of Southern Living magazine. I am not a fan of grits, but I loved this casserole!

(We halved the recipe for the four of us.)

I am still musing and still learning from this walk through illness and restoration, so I may continue to share some thoughts. I also plan to retroactively "Gather the Moments" of October and November, although I will probably backdate them. I really want them there for my own benefit, to take notice remember what the Lord has done. There is lots of catching up to do.

One day at a time...

  3. "One day at a time" takes on various depths of meaning as life changes, doesn't it? Be patient with yourself. You may want to receive/personalize this Morning Blessing fro Susie Larson: "As you walk forward to your next place of promise, may you refuse the bait of discouragement, offense, or fear. May you instead, walk forward in faith, full of hope, and rich in love. May you be so sensitive to God's voice that you rest when He says rest, and you run when He says run. He knows what's best for you and He'll get you where you need to go. Stay focused, prayerful, and hopeful. Though there are giants in the land, you have God on your side. Be brave. Be strong. Be courageous. He's got you." ♥

  5. Beautiful photography with unique perspectives. All your perspectives are unique...one of the reasons why I enjoy visiting The Farmhouse so well. Everything will be accomplished. Of that I am certain. There are priorities after all. I am sure that Bekah is doing a lot of self-study, too, which is a valuable lesson in itself. She will become one of the truly erudite. Happy preps to you....oh, how much longer must Ron be on these meds?

  8. Maybe there's another career after homeschooling with all the nursing experience you are getting. Continue to trust that the drugs are doing their job and good to hear your hubby is up and cooking! Sounds like you are fitting in some fun things midst the "new normal" of your lives right now. This may end up being a real homey Christmas for you. Your decorations are lovely--as always!

  15. I'm glad you've been able to enjoy some small blessings in amongst all the difficulties that came your way, Cheryl. Week seven?! What an ordeal. Still, you've responded to this with unwavering faith in the One who is trustworthy. Blessings.

  16. The cartoon may reflect how you feel but what the author of "Thinking About Home" says to me (between the lines) is that an impressionable ninth grader is benefiting from learning something valuable - outside of "hitting the books hard." She is Providentially learning what a loving and godly wife is.
