As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Monday Miscellany

It's been a while since we've had a little chat. Today seems like a good day for it. Is it okay if this is kind of random? 😊

After five weeks off for surgery and recovery, Ron has returned to work. We praise the Lord for a smooth recovery with this surgery! It seemed a little quiet here this morning. Not that Ron is noisy, but he is chatty and he's a morning person (which I am not), so the morning was definitely off to a slower start.

Back to routine.

But we've had a wee peek at what retirement could look like and it's all good.

We had a GRAND sleepover this weekend, the first in Pineapple House! Seven of our grands came for dinner on Friday night and went home on Saturday afternoon. Such a lot of fun! Wall-to-wall kiddos, make-your-own pizzas, Finding Dory, games, art, more games, Papa's pancakes for breakfast.

One of my favorite activities is a dinner game that one set of grands introduced to us. One person asks a question (What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Are you a morning or a night person? What is your favorite season? What is your favorite bird?), we go around the table giving each person a chance to answer that question, and then the next person asks a question. It can take a while when there are eleven people at your table, but it's a great way to learn about each other and get the conversation flowing.

A parting shot . . .

. . . and they all agreed that they'd like to have a summer sleepover. Good times!

These two did not sleepover on Friday night . . .

. . . but I soaked up their cuteness yesterday.
Don't you just love the knees on those tights? I wish I had gotten a shot of the whole outfit.

Our oldest grandson also did not sleep over, but I didn't get any pics of him yesterday. Next week, Gavin.

I have finally moved into the 21st century with my purchase of a smart phone. Truth be told, I purchased it from my daughter when she upgraded. More truth: I am far from using all of its capabilities. Far. I can make and receive calls (duh), send and receive texts (which I could with my old "stupid phone" but it's much faster with a keyboard instead of a number pad . . . hello!), AND I have learned to take selfies.

I showed my sister my first selfie and she said, "You do know that you can delete, don't you?"

Yes, it was that bad.

This one that I took on a recent drive is a little better.

And speaking of my sister . . . and the 21st century . . . and selfies . . .

For her birthday (which was back in December . . . I told you this was a random post!), I got her a selfie stick. Now Linda is really not a "selfie" kind of person, but on our mother/daughter Christmas shopping trip, we had (kind of) joked that a selfie stick would come in handy for group shots.

Here we are . . . having way too much fun with it! This picture cracks me up.

So we tried a family shot, and it is my favorite selfie of all time. I am still amazed that we got that many people all looking natural and pleasant!

Thus ends my rambling post. Happy Monday, everyone!

  2. I miss you!

So much cuteness! Those grands are so darling! Kamryn slept over Saturday night and it was fun. She'd definitely love a cousin sleep-over but her cousin is only 4 1/2 months old!

Hurray for smart phones! Its a great way to keep in touch with kids and grands!

  3. Oh, we loved this! I'm good at rambling myself so I don't mind a ramble at someone else's place. That must have been quite the sleepover party -- what fun. And those two little ones ... you just want to gobble them up they're so cute.

I do hope you'll enjoy your smart phone ... I loved mine when I finally got one! Those selfies are great -- you're getting the hang of it.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead...

  4. Your sister's comment made me laugh! That last shot is fabulous and everyone is looking at the camera's eye, which means you're all looking at me with those bright eyes and big smiles. Love it!

Now I wondered where Gavin was, but I am sure that a guy isn't as impressed with sibling and cousin camp as he might have been a few years ago. Those grands had fun! You can just see it on their faces.

Glad that retirement has been tested and that it will be good. It's quite a few years down the road, though, isn't it?

  6. Ha ha...you do know you can delete. Too funny. My sister keeps telling me to look at the camera eye on my selfies. Oye. What a great floor of grands. What fun that must be for them. I remember cousin sleepovers. Glad you survived the taste of retirement. So glad to hear how well recovery went this time around!

  8. You are SO blessed to have grandchildren close enough to do a sleepover with them. What fun! Glad to hear that Ron's recovered from surgery. You know, he might get even chattier in the mornings as he ages. ;-))I loved this post, and thanks for introducing me to the question game. That sounds like so much fun in a group, and we'll have a group of family here this weekend! xo

  12. Oh how I enjoyed this post! First off, the sleep over sounds wonderful. How the grands all love doing this, though I am usually needing a nap when they leave, lol. You caught such good pictures as always. An i-phone is pretty hard to beat. I was taking a sip of my tea when I read your sister's remark and I will admit I almost spit it out as I laughed aloud. lol Don't know why it struck me as soo funny other then that's sister for you isn't it. Your group selfie is great. I think I need one of those sticks. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  13. I love your randomness, its the stuff of life that makes up our days. I remember when I got my first smart phone, my son had to spend an afternoon just to teach me how to use it, I'very gotten better but still don't use all the functions. The sleepover looks like fun and I love the selfiessential. Hope it's been a good week so far.

  14. Oh it seems like forever ago since I have visited you...I really must do better! I loved this post Cheryl...how much fun that sleepover had to have been! All of the activities sounded so fun and you can never go wrong with make your own pizza! Congrats on your smart phone...I thought I was the last one to get one...lol. You are probably already finding out that you really can learn this...believe me, I had my doubts too but the iphone seems to be pretty easy to figure out...not sure what kind you have. I have taken a few selfies but most of them are horrible! I also said I would never get a self-stick but when my sis and I went to the beach last summer we took so many pics and when you find one for $3 you go for it...AND you can get everyone in it! Great family photo!
