As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Boys and Girls

One evening when my two oldest children were young, Kristin asked me to play Barbies with her. I was busy washing the dinner dishes, but my husband volunteered to go upstairs and play. He also enlisted our son Ryan.

I thought all was well, but only a short time later, Kristin stomped back downstairs and stood beside me at the kitchen sink.

What’s wrong?” I queried. I thought you all were playing Barbies.”

An exasperated little girl replied, “Dad and Ryan are making their Kens fight!

Hmmm...no difference in boys and girls?

  1. I love these stories! When my family came back from our first mission trip to Mexico we all shared stories at Church the first Sunday back. I shared about an observation that really touched me.

My husband was on the house building crew. I was on the kitchen crew. We ladies took lunch out to the men on the building sight. There were several children (the children of the family the house was being built for) playing in the 'yard'. The community is just a huge sand lot. It was the dump and has just been buried over with sand. So, 3 little girls each had a piece of scrap lumber that they had wrapped in a napkin and they were feeding their 'babies' with a nail 'bottle'. They were babbling in little sing song voices while their brother ran around them shooting the 'gun he had made with another piece of scrap lumber that he had pounded nails all over!

    Yes, there is a difference!
