Back in the day (the "day" meaning the 80's when "country" was in, and our money was out), Ron and I created folk art as a way to make a little pocket money. He did the cutting and building; I did the painting and finishing. Eventually, "country" went out and a bit more money came in, and our little side business went by the wayside.
Ron is a DIY guy at heart, and he still builds furniture from time to time, but it had been a while since we had worked on a small project together.
When I started seeing these "antique" signs all over the internet, I decided that it was time to get out the old paint brushes and give it a go.
We debated what word to put on our sign, but when Ron suggested COFFEE, we all knew that was the right one! We are rather passionate about our coffee around here.
I like it! We are "big" on coffee at our house, too.
ReplyDeleteI like it, too. Coffee is worthy of its own sign in my opinion. :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Love your description of the 80s. ☺
ReplyDeleteI had to send that link along to a friend who also takes his coffee very seriously. It'll give him a grin. John is the biggest coffee lover ever, but he is no connoisseur as he takes it any way that it comes.
Nice sign, would work for me, I take my coffee very seriously, too! I don't think "real" country ever went out of style! xo
ReplyDeleteVery nice work! My hubby is the big coffee drinker in this family.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I still like the country style! It's warm and cozy, unlike the new modern style I often see.
Great work. I love it! I just saw these signs reappear on the internet recently too. It got me thinking.
ReplyDeleteOh Cheryl, that's really a nice painting. We (my hubby and I )too are serious about coffee. This board just looks great!
ReplyDeleteReally great!
ReplyDeleteI have a few coffee lovers in my house as well.
You did a great job!
Deanna
Beautiful job! I guess this is different from "country" because its more streamlined? Not sure, but it is amusing the older I get to see styles come and go. We have given serious thought to our home in recent days as we are moving our chandelier and now would be the time to "update" it. But how long would the next thing be "in?" Anyway, I do like your sign and you have painted and distressed ? it very well. You should go back into business!
ReplyDeleteLove the Coffee sign. And I to remember the 80's, and was in the same condition as you.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking on doing a sign, but I want one that says Fresh Eggs.
I'm painting and tweaking my kitchen. I'm adding more hens. I think a Fresh Eggs sign is called for. You've spurred me to action!
Sounds like your hubby is a real keeper.:)
Looking Up!
Ginger
Love the sign! And I agree about taking coffee very seriously, LOL.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on that sign! You need to do a tutorial on how to do the lettering:)
ReplyDeleteGreat job, I love your tin light. May I enquire as to where you found it.Blessings, Dawn E. Brown
ReplyDeleteFor Dawn...
ReplyDeleteWe ordered our tin saddle light on eBay over a year ago, but it was a light from Irvin's Country Tinware. (The price on eBay was a little better than ordering it direct.) However, I went to the Irvin's site and do not see a two-socket saddle light, only the double (four-socket) one.
I did a little searching and found one that is very similar. I am not familiar with this company, so I cannot vouch for their service. Here is the link... http://www.rusticloglighting.com/hanging.html
Hope that helps! :)
