As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

gather. {even more pumpkins}

I love to use natural elements in my autumn decorating. But this year...well, I just couldn't resist these velvet pumpkins! I picked up one in August while on our anniversary getaway. And then I picked up another one at "my" Marshalls. Then I decided that a trio would be just right.

I gathered them in my dough bowl with some faux and natural fall-ish things.

My mom has been gathering some pumpkins of her own! Don't hers look lovely there on the white tray with the mercury glass candle holders? This arrangement is so "Mom."

I love that we all decorate with our own style, don't you?

What sort of pumpkins fit your style? Have you been gathering fall decor?

(Okay...no more pumpkin posts. I'll gather something else. For a few days.)

This is day 7 in the series gather.  Click ~here~ to see more.

  1. Cheryl,

    I'm enjoying seeing your creativity in working your 'gather' theme this month.

    I really like that long wooden dish of pumpkin display on your table. Lovely.

    Wishing you a beautiful day...

  2. Good morning! First off, I LOVE your display. It's perfect. And then I have to tell you your mom's arrangement and your comment that it is just soo mom moved me to tears. Oh how my mom had her style. And she was soo good at it! One of her favorite things to do was to decorate in general, but holiday decorating was a real favorite. I miss seeing her little touches to things. I have left her dresser arrangements in what was her room as it strikes me that way every time I see. Good memories. Enjoy your day!

  3. You are so right! I have my style and both of my daughters have different ones.....while my mother didn't even have one!!! Mother never decorated at all except for a Christmas Tree - and I always decorated that - even picked it out! Love seeing all your pretty things! I like yours AND your mother's style!

  5. I started noticing these velvet pumpkins last fall and really decided I wanted to try my hand at making a few of them...IF I could find the fabric...which I really haven't been looking for BUT now that I have been reminded by your post, I'm going to try! These look so realistic so I think they fit into your natural decor quite nicely! Your mom's arrangement is also quite lovely! My fall decor is still sitting in crates in my garage :( I like mixing it up.

  6. I love your velvet pumpkins. My decorating is on vacation while my kids are so little and our house is so full :) Just a thought though, I'd suggest baking your acorns and pinecones, we had some bugs in ours a few years ago :(

  7. Your arrangement has convinced me... I do, indeed need velvet pumpkins. Your mom's arrangement has convinced me... seasonal items in non-traditional color palettes can be gorgeous!
