As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Coming Home

It's been a thrilling week for our family, with a couple of significant homecomings!

First, Macie Violet came home to a houseful of adoring siblings, all eagerly waiting their turn to hold her.

A few days later, our faraway family moved "home" to Maryland and are no longer far away!

Bekah and I were excited to be able to have the children over while the moving truck was being unloaded. The older children stayed longer, but Baby Paul decided that he'd rather go back to the new house to take his afternoon nap. :)

But even as I ponder how wonderful "home" can be, I acknowledge that even the most loving and comfortable home is the palest shadow of what is to come. As believers, we wander here as sojourners, on the way to our Heavenly home.

"For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come."
Hebrews 13:14

  2. Precious beyond words. I can almost see those older brothers and sisters falling in love with their new baby sister. There are going to be many happy, fun days ahead for them all. Babies bring such joy.

So glad that you have all your loves gathered close. You have been waiting a long, long time!

Yes, and as beautiful as these homecomings are...nothing will compare with THAT day when we are truly home.

  13. Precious newborn. Oh Happy Day for both Homecomings.
My devotions this morning were about our delightful home in heaven, a place of no more striving, of no physical weariness in our serving the King. Then I read this, your affirmation. Blessings, all around.

  16. Oh my, what precious photos! You always seem to be able to place yourself strategically almost, to get the best shots. I love them all but my favorite one is the first one with the door barely letting in the light as the children eagerly await the entrance of mom & dad and their new baby sister! You certainly have a gift of capturing the moments :)
