As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Saturday Graces

Graces...things that I do not deserve, but that He has seen fit to give to me. These are all joys here on a June Saturday.

~ The living room and dining room have a fresh coat of paint...and I love it!

It was hard work. A lot of space to cover. Three of the five painters are aged 55 and older. And because we were painting where wallpaper had been, and because that required a "skim coat" of wallboard compound, and because skim coats need to be sanded, and because our sanding team didn't warn me so that I could cover everything first (ahem), there was a layer of fine white dust coating the entire dining room and parts of other rooms. Oh dear. Check out the photos below...

But the painting was completed in two days, the clean up took another, and now I am so pleased that I have (almost) forgotten the agony and the ibuprofen.

~ Birthday cupcakes and espresso cookies

The kitchen is smelling heavenly today! Cupcakes are cooling on the island, waiting to be frosted. We are celebrating July birthdays tomorrow, our granddaughters Eve and Maddie. On the counter is a batch of espresso cookies, a new recipe that Kati made for a game party that she is hosting tomorrow evening. Pineapple House will be busy tomorrow!

~ Air conditioning is a much-appreciated gift on a hot, humid Saturday when the oven is getting a workout!

~ I am a pilgrim.

Indeed, it is no secret that I love house-y things. In fact, as we are settling into a new home, I find myself thinking of house-y things a lot...dreaming, imagining, planning. But I must never lose sight of the fact that it is all temporary, hardly even a blip on the radar of eternity.

Yes, this world is dark and it seems to get worse by the day. As believers, we wear "the stigma of strangers."

But we're traveling on. "We are not homeless prodigals here because we have someplace to go."

"We are pilgrims to the city of God."

And that, my fellow travelers, is a marvelous grace.

  2. Looks wonderful, fresh, and clean. What color did you use? Paint? I take note of all these things. For example, Melissa at The Inspired Room used the new Glidden paint. This color looks similar to what she used.

We do spend a lot of time thinking about temporal things; however, it is not a bad thing to do as we are mimicking our Creator or so I believe. We care because He cares.

  3. It sure looks nice, Cheryl. Isn't it amazing how far reaching a little sanding dust can travel?
God gave us this life to enjoy, even if it is for a short time. Enjoy the Pineapple House. ♥

  4. Great words! And love the paint color! In fact, I love it so much, I'm pretty sure it's a near match to the paint color on our family room walls! It's very soothing.

The song was just exactly what I needed this morning. Thank you.

  7. I know about that dust! Am about to have more tomorrow for an area that didn't work too well with the wallpaper covering. I do love the new color and looks similar to what I'm looking for so will em to ask. Love how the blip of the three day paint trial is now a thing of the past and your Pineapple house is in action again! We women (and men) do have in us a yearn to improve things--all about renewal of the earth, from the Creator of it all!

  11. You are settling in to the Pineapple House very nicely. The fireplace and painted walls look fabulous (I too know all about that dust - eek). Many, many times I think of the marvellous Grace that has been undeservingly bestowed on me - God is good! Enjoy the July birthday celebrations!

  12. Painting is one of my least favorite things, yet something I constantly find myself doing. My husband did that 'sanding' thing a few years ago in an upstairs room while I was away. Honestly....it found its way downstairs as well and settle on every surface and ledge. He won't be doing that again! :D Your walls look lovely, and I know all about agony and ibuprophen.
