Our first 2019 house project is complete!
It was a relatively simple one. We called it a "bathroom refresh" because it didn't feel like a full remodel. This was our plan:
- Paint the walls and all the trim. ✔
- Hang a new ceiling light. ✔
- Remove the fluorescent light above the vanity. ✔
(We could still add vanity lights over this mirror if we find the right thing.)
- Make shutters for the window. ✔
Regardless of what we called it, we feel like the small changes have made the bathroom feel visually cleaner, brighter . . . and, yes, "fresher."
I'll sign off with a couple of before-and-after shots.
To be fair, I have to tell you that the "befores" were taken with my camera and the "afters" were taken with Kati's (I used hers because of the low light today), so part of the brighter-and-fresher is due to the difference in cameras.
Isn't it amazing what a colour change can do? Changing the green tiles has made your bathroom so much lighter and brighter.
ReplyDeleteActually, the green is the same! It's just that Kati's camera is so much better than mine! I do think that the fresh white walls brighten the green up a bit too.
DeleteLighting can definitely make a difference and your new fixture looks very nice. Sometimes just a few small details is really all it takes...it looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debby! You're right. Just a few updates can give a room new life!
DeleteIt looks really nice. I like the new light and the shutters. You may need a new camera. 😉
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vee! I agree with you about the camera, especially since Kati seems to want to take her camera when she moves! (Along with her movies, her books, her games . . Good grief.) 😁
DeleteCheryl, your bathroom is lovely. Every project you all engage in turns out beautifully. I do love the shutters and the new light fixture adds just the right touch. Your shower curtain is bold and quite lovely. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha Ellen, for your vote of confidence! I'm glad you like the shower curtain. I feel like it gives a little "punch" to the lighter colored tile!
DeleteAbsolutely stunning, Cheryl, it is amazing what a few changes can do to a room. I have an upstairs bathroom that needs some changes soon. You always have great results with remodeling, I remember the changes you made at your other home, and how beautiful they were.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, I will say to you what I said to Vee, your need to post more often.
Blessings,
Sue
Thank you, Sue, for your kind words! I think remodeling is in our blood. After so many years of remodeling The Farmhouse (out of total necessity!), it's kind of a habit now.
DeleteWe are not in a "posting often" season of life right now! But I hope to return to more regular blogging this summer . . . after Kati's wedding and Bekah's graduation!
Very nice updates. Nixing the fluorescent fixture was a good choice but you know that. We are in search of new bathroom vanity lights to replace the ugly ones in our master bathroom. Love the shutters! Fresher for sure. Happy weekend to you!
ReplyDeleteThank, Ellen! That fluorescent light was the most offensive part of this room. Bekah refused to turn it on! (The girl has her opinions! 😉) Looking forward to seeing what you do in your home!
DeleteLove how you did the shutters on the window and your use of plaid and country colors. So cute and different, with the tile work.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We were happy to be able to make just a few changes and keep the tile.
DeleteA great way to keep up with the old tile and make it a refreshed bathroom!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! That certainly made it doable! Otherwise, it would have been a time-consuming (and more costly) remodel.
DeleteAmazing what some new paint and lighting can do to refresh a room!! I love the shutters and your Noah's Ark picture. The shower curtains are fabulous and accent the artwork colours so beautifully. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rosella! I love Noah's Ark too! This print was hanging in our living room at The Farmhouse, but I thought it worked nicely in the bathroom here.
DeleteIt’s so much more your style and look now! Great job! How you have the energy to do anything else right now is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deanna! Actually, Ron did most of the work while we girls were doing wedding invitations! Kind of "divide and conquer"? The other projects are waiting their turn this summer. "After the wedding . . . " is a common phrase these days!
DeleteDon't you just love how MUCH can be changed with a fresh coat of paint and a few simple things? I love how it came out! I especially love the shutters! I am going to have to visit blogland more often as I certainly don't want to miss hearing all about the wedding coming up. Such a wonderful, wonderful time isn't it? Kind of exhausting and time consuming, but in a really good way! Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie! So nice to have you stop by for a visit! Yes, come again to hear more about the wedding . . . it's coming up so quickly!
DeleteI don't see my comment here. Sometimes I think I mentally write a comment but never actually do it! Anyway, I love what you've done with the bathroom refresh, and the green tile--I'm glad you saved it. I think it's so pretty! (I'm partial to green anyway.)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Dotsie! I am happy with the green too!
Delete(Comments are crazy these days!)
