As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Sunday Snapshots: Ten!

Do you remember your first ten years?  Did that time seem interminably long?  Days and days...school days, summer days, holidays, stretching endlessly before you?

How about the next ten years?  Did they also pass slowly?  Did it seem like you'd never grow up, or get your driver's license, or graduate from high school?

Then why is it that the ensuing ten-year stretches are so fleeting, speeding by as if on winged feet?

And how can it be ten whole years since Ron and I became grandparents, since the day that our first grand, our Grand Gavin, came into our world?

Today, we celebrated the marvelous gift that is Gavin, and delighted in his first ten years!

As each of our grandchildren reaches their tenth year, Papa is going to make a special box for their treasures.  Gavin's was the first, crafted from mahogany, etched with his name.  We also gave him ten presents to open...lots of fun for him, and for us!

The birthday boy requested banana splits for his birthday dessert!  No birthday cake to hold ten candles, but no matter.

The house was filled with partiers...2 parents, 4 siblings, 7 cousins, 1 aunt/friend, a bunch of other aunts and uncles, 3 grandparents, 1 great-grandmother...all there to celebrate Gavin!

HaPpY BiRtHdAy, GrAnD GaViN!
We thank God that you are a part of our world!

  2. Time does seem to go by amazingly fast these days! My son could actually have his driver's permit in about 9 months and my daughter turns 11 this Saturday ~ I can't believe it! Gavin is adorable and you have a beautiful family, Cheryl. I can tell how much you love and cherish them!

  4. What a special celebration. Yes, those first twenty years dragged and you're so right about the rest of them...zipping right along.

Gavin is such a handsome ten-year-old. He must have been excited over all these things just for him. It must have been extra special having him arrive in time for Christmas ten years ago, too. Christmas is always so cool with a baby in the house. I need one of those boxes myself. How cool is that?!

  5. That is a significant party--but then is a turn to two digits, and that's big. Ten gifts too, I see and a box to treasure for the rest of his life!
