As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

gather. {brown}

Do you ever gather a particular color?

Oh, how I love the vibrant colors of autumn! Red, burgundy, orange, yellow, bittersweet, gold. So beautiful and rich.

But I also love...brown.

Brown is warm. Smooth. Comforting. Settling.

So when I am settling into autumn, I often look around my house and gather brown.

Have you ever gathered a color? What color says fall to you?

On Friday, I'll be Gathering the Moments of October.

As I have done since January, I will be providing a place for you to link your own "moments" and we can share with one another. (More details ~here~.)

I will be hosting this gathering each month through December. Feel free to join in!

This is day 29 in the series gather.  Click ~here~ to see more.

  1. Oh I do love the colors of fall and I don't think I can pick just one but I love that beautiful brown transfer ware of yours! You have to have the browns to make those oranges, reds and golds pop! There was also a time a few years back when brown was considered the new black, remember? And turquoise was what went so well with it...it seemed like my closet was full of turquoise and brown. Brown is GOOD!

  2. I've occasionally thought that brown is an underappreciated color. Thank you for giving it some time in the spotlight!

  6. I don't know that I've ever gathered a color. I do love fall colors including brown. I have a teapot similar to yours and it's my every day teapot. Drip free--then you know it's a good one. I got it for 50 cents. I love your brown pottery and transfer ware. Your house is so beautiful and graceful. It's seems to be the kind of house one would feel right at home in.

  8. I never used to like brown, I guess because I grew up in a house with brown paneling, brown curtains, rust carpet and a brown stripe couch. I craved color! I do like brown very much now, though I don't use it in my decorating.

For me the colors of Autumn are the reds, oranges, mustard, pumpkin colors. Love them!

One of the photos of your brown transfer ware bowls made me think of two bowls Lindsay found at Fresh Vintage yesterday. They are terrific!

I love seeing your sweet home.

  9. Brown is looking very pretty at your house, Cheryl.
When I lived where the winters were loooong, I wasn't a fan of the browns of November. The landscape reminded me of death as it seemed like an eternity until color would return again. Now I live where winter is short and mild and summers are long and hot. I now greatly anticipate all aspects of fall, including the browns :).
My sister-in-law just gifted me with two brown and white transferware plates. I had fun finding a home for them in the hutch.

  11. Nice photos. Actually, I do like brown. It says CHOCOLATE to me. :-) but I like brown and olive green. They're very November colors to me, along with a deep blood red. Not sure why the blood red, but it just kind of perks it up. Very pretty wreath.

  12. I'm not really a fan of brown, but there's something about fall that makes me appreciate it. It's warm and cozy - the color of tree trunks, pinecones and chocolate! Lovely photos of the gathering of browns in your world.

  13. Like you, brown is a favorite color, especially when paired with black...so sophisticated yet cozy as well. Is that Johnson dinner ware? Sure looks like it and it's beautiful.
