As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Sunday Snapshots: Bekah's Barbie Birthday Bash

I am so glad that I settled on the name Sunday Snapshots (plural) instead of the original Sunday Snapshot (as in just one) for this regular feature here at Thinking About Home.  On days like this, I'm not sure how I would narrow all my favorites to oneOne?

Bekah went to bed on the night before her birthday party with rag curls in her hair.  (Does anyone remember rag curls?)  This morning we untied all the rags, she put on a pretty dress (to coordinate with her party decorations, of course), and we were ready for the day.

When a dad, a mom, two sisters, one brother-in-law, three nephews, two nieces, and two grandmothers help you celebrate your birthday, it is a birthday BASH!

Vintage Barbie was the theme, so there was lots of pink and fluff and lace and glam all around.

After all the party guests had gone, Bekah requested a family badminton game in the back yard.  (Actually, she has asked to play badminton for several Sundays, but this evening we acquiesced as it was her special day.)

Her dad wondered aloud if there might be anyone else who plays badminton wearing a foufy bracelet and animal print sunglasses.

I will end this post with this picture taken by Kati.  This is the dress that Bekah wore on her first birthday, ten years ago.  I had shown it to everyone this afternoon, and had hung it on the door knob of our school cabinet there in the kitchen, right beside the little cross stitch hanging that says "Blessings."  I love the memories it evokes.

  4. Love her little dress! My mom used to roll my hair in sponge rollers, then fix it up so I would look like the little girl on Sunbeam bread :) You are good at planning parties!

  5. I do indeed remember rag curls,Beka is beautiful, and growing into a very fine young lady. You have a beautiful family, This was one birthday party I know Beka will put away in her memory bank as one of the most special. The badminton game was the icing on the cake. ~smile~

  6. Cheryl, your collages are gorgeous, especially when clicked upon and viewed at full size. That little dress just pulls at the heartstrings. (That would be a fun and meaningful idea for a wedding, wouldn't it?) I didn't realize Bekah liked Vintage Barbie. I've seen so many Barbie items in my years of antiquing. I love it that your parties are always a "bash". If you're going to celebrate, celebrate with all your heart! So glad Bekah had such a fun birthday!
