As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

What We've Been Up To

Phase Two has begun!

Monday

We went to Ikea to purchase the countertop.

Tuesday

Ron took out the old cracked and rusty kitchen sink and put in the new farmhouse sink.

He has temporarily rigged the old faucet on a piece of lumber so that we can have running water until the countertop is in place.  The new faucet will be set into the countertop.
(Thanks, Hon!)

Even in its humble (aka unfinished) surroundings,
I can tell I'm going to love this new sink!

 Wednesday

Wet weather prevented the countertop-cutting station from being set up outside, so Ron decided to install the under cabinet lighting that he had chosen.

Honestly friends, back in November, I wanted to paint the cabinetsPeriod.
But when The Man of the House comes on board and takes on the project, you just never know what's going to happen (sink, countertop, under cabinet lighting...)!

We girls are going to love having our workspace lit so beautifully.

All Week

Yes, while Ron has been busy working, one of us (or two, or three of us, depending on the day) has been camped out on the sofa or wrapped up in blankets or zoning out on movies while nursing a yucky upper respiratory virus of some kind.  Blah.

Next up...countertop!

  1. I'm so jealous (in a most Christian sort of way) of that sink. I'm VERY happy for you and can't wait to see your counter tops!

  2. Still loving the color of your cabinets and that sink...wonderful. The lighting under the upper cabinets makes such a difference. I've never even allowed myself to think of that! Your husband is a sweetheart. Make that man some cookies just as soon as you get back up to speed.

Hope that you gals feel better very soon. It's no fun being under the weather. Don't know if you can take echinacea or not; it works so well for us that we testify to its efficacy all the time.

  3. I'm hoping that you are all on the mend.

This is such a wonderful project! So excited and the peek and the cabinet color! They look wonderful! I also adore farmhouse kitchen sinks....sigh. They are perfect!

  4. Looking good! And I think you will really like the under cabinet lighting. For years I worked in a dark kitchen and I really like to see what I'm doing:)

  5. Great color for the cabinets, and I would have chosen a farmhouse sink if I'd had the room! We are 95% finished with our kitchen makeover. It's tedious, isn't it, to have your kitchen "out of whack." Yours is coming along really nicely!

  6. Oh, Cheryl ...

I'm so sorry kleenex and cold medicine have felt the need to visit your house this week! They've been my visitors lately, too. I pray each day is finding you feeling better. I love the way you grouped all of them together in that photo. Very descriptive.

Oh, and I do love the pictures of the progress in your kitchen. I love seeing a glimpse of your trip to IKEA. That looks like fun! Anticipation is much of the joy of any new endeavor. And that collage reeks of anticipation.

Everything is looking so good. The cabinets, the sink, the under-cabinet lighting! One can never have too much light! Your pictures are bringing back memories of our kitchen re-do. A lot of work but sooooo worth it in the end.

Rejoicing with you over the new and fresh things that are awaiting you in your beautiful and loving farmhouse.

  7. Hope you can see my excitement in this comment, Cheryl,I am soooo happy for you girls! ~smile~ I smiled when you told of just wanting painted cabinets and of your dh doing all the extras. I have experienced the same with painting the outside fences this year, when we finished one project dh went on go to another, and from there to another. We have been at this for weeks. lol We are tired, but happy as these projects have needed to be completed for quite a while.
Now if I can just get dh interested in painting and redoing my kitchen. ~grin~ Maybe next year!!

Wishing you a very blessed and Happy Mother's Day!.
    Love,
    Sue
