As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Two Out of Three

At the end of yesterday's post, I posed a question.  What are you looking forward to this summer?  My bloggy friend Deanna included "air conditioning" in her response, and then went on to write a post about the blessings of air conditioning on her own blog.

All this has me thinking about the BAC (Before Air Conditioning) days here at the farmhouse.  Yes, there were many years that we lived without air conditioning.  And if you know how much I dislike hot-and-humid, and count in the fact that my first two babies were born in August, you might imagine that I was an unhappy camper.  But I was young back then (in my 20's), and got through it fairly well with fans in every room and lots of freeze pops.

But when I was pregnant with Kati (in my 30's), the day came that I phoned Ron at work, crying, totally overwhelmed by the heat.  And that is the summer that we had central air conditioning installed downstairs.  Oh happy day!

Then the spring that we brought our tiny preemie Bekah home from the hospital (in my 40's), we decided that it was time to have the upstairs cooled as well.  That was the summer that we had central air conditioning installed upstairs.  Oh happy day!

If we had had another baby, I was going for the in ground pool.

But two out of three ain't bad.

  1. Cheryl, we made it all the way to mid-June this year before putting in the window AC units. I was glad for low electric bills, but right now am basking in the coolness!

  3. OH! Cheryl, if you could see me smiling, I went through something so similar earlier in our marriage, I can remember the day we got our window as if it was today!! We thought we had really made the big league!! lol.. I too am soooo thankful for AG, especially with the heat and humidity we are having! An in ground pool sounds so nice, so I say when you finish the remodeling just go for it!! I am tempted to add one to my wish list, however i will say the outdoor shower has certainly been handy of late, as a matter of fact dh, and I have been using it at least once a day, even though our indoor shower is on.
    Enjoyed this post so much!

  5. Bummer about the pool! :)

Its funny how we can learn to live without things...when our a/c was broken, we had the hottest weather we had had all year upper 80's and humid - and we actually survived! Ceiling fans help so well. But during these days of 90's and nearly 100 and then upper 80's I am so happy for my A/C!

Glad you have it in the house now! When we bought our house we had it installed, and a new heating system rather than the baseboard electric heat!

    Have a happy Sunday!
