As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Pineapple House at Christmas

There are so many "firsts" when you move into a new house . . . or maybe they just feel bigger when you have lived in your previous home for thirty-five years

So now we are celebrating our first Christmas here at Pineapple House

All new spaces to decorate!

It was a little overwhelming at first. It felt like a whole new game, and I am s-l-o-w even on a good day. But with the incentive of a busy week ahead, we blitzed it on Thanksgiving weekend as Bing Crosby crooned in the background.

As at The Farmhouse, I keep my Christmas decorating simple. Lots of natural elements (even though lots of the "natural" elements are faux ~smile~) and candles and white lights. Keeping a similar style, it all kind of fell into place.

Come along with me for a little tour of Pineapple House dressed for Christmas...

I knew I'd need a taller/bigger tree for our new living room. In the small Farmhouse living room, we had a "pencil tree" which was perfect for the space. But it would have been dwarfed in the Pineapple House living room. I saw a new tree at Target (I know, shocker) that I liked, but I didn't want to spend that much.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, I mentioned it to Ron. He had been looking at the Sunday ads and informed me that all of the Christmas trees in Target's "Wondershop" were half price! We immediately got up and went to Target, hoping that "our" tree was in the Wondershop (and wondering what the Wondershop was). It was!

Kati recently made this little bird from a pajama shirt that had been Ron's father's. Some year, it may be on the Christmas tree, but this year, it is hanging in a more noticeable place.

You caught me sneaking in an adorable grandchild photo, didn't you?

The sideboard is the focal point in the dining room.

Ryan brought us this beautiful nativity made of olive wood from his trip to Israel last January.

Festive nooks and crannies in the kitchen...

The sun porch was a fun space to decorate! We put Ron's tree and our former kitchen tree on the porch, trimmed with white lights only. It has been too cold to go out there to sit, but we can see it from the kitchen windows, from the living room, and as we turn into our street, so we have enjoyed it nonetheless. And if there's a warm day, we'll be sure to take our coffee out and sit a spell!

Thanks for joining us in celebrating our first Christmas at Pineapple House! How I wish all of my blog friends could stop by. We would share a cup of coffee or tea, listen to Bekah play glorious Christmas music on the piano, and rejoice in Him who has brought us eternal hope!

There shall be a root of Jesse;
And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles,
In Him the Gentiles shall hope.
Romans 15:12

  1. Cheryl, I love Christmas in your new home. It looks very "at home" and very "you." You have such a great touch with arranging all the greenery and candles, etc. etc. and the "natural" elements. What a pleasure it will be to incorporate your Christmas traditions in your new setting. If your blue chair is a recliner, then that's another chair we have in common. :-) Mine has a story, of course, but that's for another day. Have a wonderful celebration together and enjoy these advent days.

  2. Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for showing us your festive nooks, crannies, tall tree and plush fireplace mantel. The greenery and natural elements are warm, cozy and early American. I have the same hurricane glass around a candle in my parlor. A faux pineapple on the mantle is a good idea because when I put a real one there it doesn't stay long before the Man-of-the-House carves it for me to eat. Merry Christmas. The food is cooked and I'm expecting company any minute. Tis the season. Fun.

  4. The Pineapple House looks beautiful decorated for Christmas! Your decorator touch is found in every nook and cranny you have shared. I especially like where you placed the apple fan. If I remember correctly, you had it in your kitchen at the Farmhouse. The light on your precious grandson is so pretty! I'm glad you sneaked that one in. Have a wonderful time celebrating in your new home! ♥

  9. It is magazine worthy...yes, I would definitely buy that one. The adorable grandchild is perfection. He looks like a little angel. Yay for Ron's reading the flyer and seeing the sale. Such moments are God winks for us. Oh I'd love to hear Bekah play the piano...she'd do a little video for you perhaps?

I have a little blonde guy who would probably love to play with that little blonde guy in your chair. Oh, what fun they'd have! Merry Christmas!
