As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Five on Friday

Gathering some big and small joys from the past week with another Five on Friday post! (Again, I am slipping in just under the wire. It's my modus operandi.)

{one}

We had a big birthday bash on Sunday! Since we were unable to find a Sunday for our December celebration, we simply honored the December and the January birthday people in a Winter Birthday Celebration.

Except for Macie, none of these people love being the center of attention, so they were happy to share the spotlight.
L to R: my sister Linda, granddaughter Macie (3), son-in-law Brian, grandson Gavin (16 . . . what?!), daughter-in-law Sarah, and granddaughter Nora (10)

Is winter a "joy"?

I am guessing that many of you don't think so right now, especially those who have felt winter's ravages and its dangerous temperatures this week. But here it is regardless, and we are enjoying long evenings, cozy sweaters and scarves, candlelight, hot soup, and lots of coffee.
Some winter decor inside . . . several inches of fresh snow outside!

Wearing a lovely handmade cowl, a gift from my sweet friend Deanna.

Having a new(ish) friend for coffee was another joy this week. Learning another's story, sharing fellowship, deep words, a few laughs, and orange scones . . . time well spent!

My thoughtful guest brought me a pineapple tucked into a Colonial Williamsburg gift box!

{four}

Wedding planning is in full swing! With less than four months (yikes!) before the wedding, there is lots to do!

{five}

I shared one version of this song in a Five on Friday post back in October. This week I discovered another that I like every bit as much (or more?). I love choral music and I love a cappella singing and I love this song.

May your weekend be mercy-filled!

    1. I'm glad you loved this song like I did!!

      (Thanks for taking the time to comment. Is Blogger making it difficult? I have heard that it is, but I have NO idea how to remedy that.)

  3. "His mercy is more"! Love this acapella piece so much Cheryl! Thank you for starting my Saturday with joy.
    Happy birthday to all the birthday folk! Your eldest grandson is sixteen and getting so tall--How does that happen? Our Alex will hit that milestone next month and I can hardly wrap my brain around that.
    Such happy times at the Pineapple House. Happy planning in the days ahead. ♥

    1. Oh, I'm glad you loved this song too, Martha Ellen! Such a message!

      Like you, I find it hard to comprehend that I have a sixteen-year-old grandson. Even though he and Bekah are only 20 months apart, it still sneaked up on me!

      Happy times indeed! Lots of work too, but it's happy work!

    1. Lost a comment...just saying that I loved that acapella piece and Kati’s ring is beautiful. Always a birthday party at your place. I note that the sixteen-year-old is taller than his dad. That has to be fun.

    2. I love Kati's ring too! It is a family piece, originally worn by Andrew's great-grandmother. So special!

      Ack! Taller than his dad! How did I not notice that?!

    3. That is so special about Kati's ring!! Is it still the original diamond? I only ask, because I lost my original diamond from my engagement ring about 15 years ago (one that even my husband's dad helped to purchase from a family friend's diamond store). I still "grieve" about that.

    4. As far as I know, it is the original diamond. I'll have to ask Andrew.

      I feel your pain about losing your diamond. My own diamond popped out of my engagement ring one day when I was cleaning. At the time, we did not have the funds to get it repaired. I put diamond and ring in a baggie (poor choice) in a basket on the top of my hutch and never saw it again. Ugh.

  6. What fun to celebrate so many birthdays together! Katy's ring is beautiful, and even more so that it's an heirloom piece, as I read in a comment.

  7. Enjoyed your five! 4 months...if anyone can pull it together nicely you and your daughters can! Party on. I don't think you need that encouragement. That ring is lovely. I'm feeling random in my commenting. My brain needs some food. :)

    1. It's not a lot of time, but we're getting it done! Kati is taking charge of most things and Andrew is involved in the planning too. (Thank the Lord for texting and Skype!) I am consultant and moral support. It's a team effort!
