As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

A Baby Shower For Kati

While Kati was visiting last week, the ladies of our family gathered to celebrate her new baby girl who will be arriving this summer!

Last year, we had planned a bigger shower with friends and extended family as Kati was expecting her first baby. The shower date was March 22, and we all know what happened that week. The trip was cancelled, the shower was cancelled, and we all retreated into our homes. So disappointing!

Fourteen months later, Kati is expecting her second baby, she and Andrew were able to travel to Maryland, and we planned a baby shower brunch to celebrate!

CHILDREN'S  BOOKS  had been the theme of the cancelled shower and since we had saved some of the decorations, we just added a little pink to the mix and kept the theme. Kati and Andrew are both readers, and we're certain that their children will be too!

We decorated the cupcakes with tiny "book" picks, and scattered a few favorite children's books around the room. Peter Rabbit napkins and a cheerful balloon banner completed the look.

Our brunch menu was similar to the one we had at our "Little Cutie" baby shower in March, which was similar to the menu of the "All Things Grow With Love" shower a few years ago. (I think I need to come up with a new menu whenever we celebrate the next baby!)

Kati, our mother-to-be

Joanna, the baby we were celebrating at our last baby shower

Baby K was so content, Aunt Kristin decided to hold her until she wanted to get down,
even if that meant that she was the last one to eat. (That's exactly what it meant.)
(Because of the laws of foster care, Baby K's sweet face cannot be shown.)

We played a game in which we supplied the correct titles to book covers.
We also guessed the number of Hershey's kisses in a glass vase (Guess How Much I Love You),
but I neglected to get a picture of that.

It appears that we are also playing "Pass Joanna Around the Room."
Can you blame us?

Macie was our "gift fairy" again.

Eve (13) made this beautiful quilt for Eleanor Grace!

Caleb woke up from his morning nap and Andrew brought him in to join the party.

And he had a birthday present to open!

Watching Papa do yard work.

It was such a joy to celebrate this coming blessing!

  3. That looked like an awesome day and the food looked fabulous. But I must say, your family and home are just lovely. I was a little teary when I saw all the books!. My kids are now 24 and 29 and we read all of them. Another nice author is Cynthia Rylant with the Henry and Mudge series. Really sweet. Take care and stay well. Barb in PA

    1. Barb, thank you so much for all of your kind words!

Oh my. I feel like we could sit down together and have a long chat (with a few tears thrown in) about raising children and reading books and happy memories! We love Cynthia Rylant too and I'm not sure how we missed including any of her books. Henry and Mudge, Mr. Putter and Tabby, Little Whistle . . . all loved!

  4. I'm so glad Kati was able to have a showering of gifts in your home with all of her loved ones. Such a lovely gathering in your home. Your menu is a winner--no need to change a thing for next time, Cheryl. I love seeing all the joy in your family. All of your grands are darling!

    1. Martha Ellen, I was so grateful for the opportunity to "shower" her this time around! We were so disappointed when last year's had to be cancelled. Isn't it something how your heart just continues to grow each time a new grand is born? There is always more room for love! Thank you for your kind comments, friend!

  6. What a fine baby shower with babies in attendance. What could be more perfect? The women in your family are extraordinary people. The quilt Eve made for her new cousin is beautiful. Kati looks ready for a new baby. She'll be a busy lady with her handsome little boy and darling baby girl. Hope that you grandparents will be able to visit easily once the baby is here.

    1. Thank you, Vee! I agree that babies at a baby shower are just right! Oh, I could brag on and on about those grands . . .

A visit to the baby and her family is in the works! Can't wait!

  7. Cheryl, that's just the sort of baby shower I like! And don't you dare change the menu—this one should go down in family history as "your" shower menu! And the table and decorations are just as they should be. Relaxed elegance and just the right amount of people. I hate pretentious extravaganzas with dozens and dozens of guests, many of whom are wondering why they were even invited!

    1. I'm happy that you would have felt at home, Jean! I would never want a "pretentious extravaganza" and my Kati would have melted into the floor! And if a wonderful food blogger says to keep the menu, then that's all I need to hear! Thank you for all of your kind words!

    1. Thank you for all of your kind words, Deanna! It was an easy theme to be enthused about and I can see why you love it too! I'm sure you've read most (or all!) of those books to your children and/or grandchildren over the years.

Family is such a gift, and it warms my heart to see my children raising their own children "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."

Pass the baby was another fun game. :) Look at how cute Caleb is growing. Love the photo of the two little ones looking out the door. So much to comment on. 1. Thanks so much, Becki! I, too, love the two babies at the door! Out of the camera's view, my husband was doing yard work and waving at the babies. They waved back a couple of times. SO cute! I love the quilt too. Such beautiful colors Eve chose!
