As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Small Details

I have been pondering the small things today.

In a blog post, my friend Lorrie (whose slice-of-life blog is a feast for the eyes and the mind) shared something that she had recently read . . . that satisfaction is found most in the small details of life.

And that stirred my thoughts about some small things that have brought me satisfaction lately. I'll name a few.

🌿A slow Saturday morning, beginning with Ron and me drinking our coffee in the sunroom.

🌿A drive along the water.

🌿Putzing around the house.

🌿A surprise message from a friend . . . just because.

🌿Doing laundry in my new laundry closet.

🌿The crepe myrtles in bloom.

🌿The limelight hydrangea almost in bloom. So close!

🌿Buying supplies for a new craft project.

🌿A group of ladies around my table for Bible study.

What about you? What small details have brought you satisfaction?

  1. It is often the small details that have the biggest impact, I find. Finding a beautiful butterfly on one of my plants brought a thrill to my heart today.

  3. I like your small details that brought you joy. Here it was seeing the quail babies following their mama, coffee in the morning, the views out our windows, working on a jigsaw puzzle, and making something out of nothing for dinner. :)

  4. Hearing a hummingbird zip around me when I'm outside deadheading the flowers. While the daylilies are blooming it's a nearly everyday experience. Love your list, Cheryl. Thank you for reminding us to notice the details, and even more to actually talk about the pleasure they bring.

  5. Hearing about my sons’ day at work, a quick afternoon thunderstorm, wee jars of jam ordered for bridal shower favors, flowers from an Amish road side stand from Tim. These are mine!
