I have been thinking about a simple but profound truth a dear friend shared with me:
Time is love, she said.
Time spent with people has made my heart grateful this week.
~ I am thankful for an outing with a precious longtime friend. A "treasure hunt" of sorts and some driving time which is perfect for chatting. It did my heart good to be with Frances.
~ I am thankful for a little road trip with Bekah. A history CD, a piano lesson (we sound like homeschoolers, don't we?), shopping, and one last PSL to savor before the holidays. (We were afraid we had missed our opportunity to have one, so we really were thankful for that little pleasure.) We always love taking a ride together!
~ I am thankful for a wee grandgirl sleeping in our guest room tonight. Three-year-old Macie is joyful and enthusiastic and adores her Aunt Bekah (the feeling is mutual!) and she had lots of fun here tonight . . . playing game after game, eating Chick-fil-A, watching The Grinch, eating Nerds. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she was asleep! Hers is the last of the first round of Grand Sleepovers in the new guest room.
Thankful for a dryer day, especially as so much of N.England is flooded badly.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have a trip with your daughter, but wondering what PSL is?
Thankful with you, Barbara!
DeleteA PSL is a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. Soooo good and only available for a short time so they're a treat. Bekah and I love the iced version.
Thank you! Unheard of here.
DeleteA little road trip can be a fun thing...chatting...always good. I get to have a little time with my daughter today taking a wee drive and I think we will toss in a lunch out as well. You didn’t say exactly where or exactly what so I will just imagine.
ReplyDeleteLovely that Macie happily spent the night in your guest room. What a joy it must be for each grandchild to have this special attention. Round two must be coming right up. Such hospitality will keep you busy!
Frances and I went antiquing, and Bekah and I drove out of town for her piano lesson. The fall color is definitely past peek, but we saw some lingering autumn beauty. Delightful!
DeleteThe individual sleepovers are going on hiatus, at least until after the holidays. There are so many other activities this time of year (including some very special out-of-state guests who have reservations in the guest room) that it seems better to wait until things slow down a little.
I loved going treasure hunting with you, Cheryl. But even more, I loved just being with you one on one. How true your friend's quote is .... "Time is love". To give or to receive the gift of presence is the most heart satisfying treasure ever.
ReplyDeleteFrances, I loved it too! We must do it again . . . much more frequently!
DeleteCheryl, your busy days sound like fun. I'm sure each one of your grands enjoy the special attention you shower on them. And time with a friend is love shared.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love quiet days at home, it really does the heart good to get out and spend time with dear ones! Yes, I think the children do enjoy being the one honored guest, and we certainly enjoy learning things about them that we wouldn't learn in a group. Win-win!
DeleteYour road trips sound lovely, and you're right, they are a perfect time for chatting. Sometimes a chat can get quite serious as you both stare out the front window (one must keep eyes on the road ahead). There's a certain freedom in that, wouldn't you say?
ReplyDeleteI do like PSL (I'm glad Barbara asked, I wondered too), but I missed out on them this season.
Time is love ... so true.
Thank you for another lovely post, Cheryl.

Yes, I would say that! There is that freedom in looking straight ahead as we share our thoughts with the other . . .
DeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts here!
