As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

A Challenging Theme

As I pray and ponder and plan for a new school year, I am sometimes drawn to a sort of theme for our year. Ephesians 5:15, 16 seems to be the one for this year.

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

So much in those verses to ponder!
  • Walk circumspectly. Looking all around. Watchful.
  • Not as fools, but as wise. True wisdom is from above.
  • Redeeming the time. I am challenged by this phrase. Do I wisely use the precious gift of time? Or do I squander it on frivolous things?
  • The days are evil. Indeed! Enough reason to redeem my time with eternal pursuit.
So much to learn! I want our learning to be more than academics, but that which challenges and changes the heart.
