As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Note Card Party: Thanksgiving Greetings

Although many of my "favorites" are prone to change (favorite hymn, favorite poem, favorite book), my favorite holiday is pretty consistently Thanksgiving. Maybe it's because it is celebrated during the glorious autumn season. Maybe it's because I love dishes and napkins and tablecloths and an excuse to use place cards. It could be because I love being with my family and hosting family gatherings. It might be because the traditional Thanksgiving meal is just sooooo good. Or maybe it's because Thanksgiving is simple and straightforward; it's a low stress, one-day affair. I also love the inspiring history behind the story of the first Thanksgiving.

All of these things contribute toward making Thanksgiving my favorite holiday. But the nitty gritty of it is that Thanksgiving is a time to focus on gratitude. And being thankful is an empty idea, merely a feel-good exercise in positive thinking, unless we are offering our thanks to the Giver of the gifts!

For this month's Note Card Party, I gathered a few of my favorite autumn house-y pictures, and added some Thanksgiving greetings. Thanksgiving cards are not as traditional as Christmas cards, but I have sent them some years. Do you send Thanksgiving cards?

  1. These are beautiful with the verses and quotes perfect for each photo. I used to send cards but I've gotten away from it. This would be fun to do again. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

  2. I like your thoughts on Thanksgiving and tend to agree with you. The feast is rather clear cut on Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner is more flexible. Your cards/photos are loving and you did a spectacular job with your lettering. I can see it took time and artistic talent!

  3. Your cards are beautiful and I so agree with you. Someone once said to me, 'I sometimes feel so grateful, but I don't know who to thank.' When we turn from God, we lose Hope, a Future, Justice, and have no more value than the value society decides to assign us at any given moment. And as we know, society is fickle.

  5. You flatter me to say that we were thinking alike...perhaps...too bad we weren't doing alike! LOL. Your home lends itself perfectly to Thanksgiving thoughts and decor. Love the message of your cards and in your words. Both are beautiful! I sent Thanksgiving cards when I lived away from home, not now though.

  7. Your Thanksgiving cards are amazing - I would "buy" every single one of them!!

I, too, love Thanksgivings as my fav - I think it is because there aren't church or gift or clothes committments or expense - just a lovely meal with a lovely table and special family all around.

The best part for me is after we do dessert and partial clean up we always always always play GAMES and to me that is a tradition that keeps me always hosting, love love love playing games with the family!

    Your cards are awesome.

  15. Very pretty Thanksgiving cards! I love them all. Our Thanksgiving is in October and I always purchase a card for each of my sisters to send in the mail. They live far away and they always send me one. I have never made Thanksgiving cards to send though.
