As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Resurrection Sunday | 2018

As the music we had selected played during our family celebration on Sunday, I learned that the song "He Lives" was a favorite of my Papa (my dad's dad). I love knowing that! It is also a favorite of Ron's (who is "Papa" to his own grands), and so I have chosen to include this song in my glimpses of our Resurrection Day. (You can click the link below to listen, or simply read the words between the photos.)

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today
I know that He is living, whatever men may say

I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
And just the time I need Him He's always near

He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way

He lives! He lives, salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart

Rejoice! Rejoice, O Christian! Live up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ, the King

The Hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find
None other is so loving, so good and kind

He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way

He lives! He lives, salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart

. . . that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection,
and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death . . .
Philippians 3:10

  1. A perfect post that says everything in photos, and words from the Bible.

  2. Beautiful photos with the words of a favorite old hymn intertwined. Can't beat that for a good blog post! Love your intermixing of your blue and white dishes! And place cards! And mini plants down the long table. Festive and appropriate for celebrating our Savior's resurrection!

    1. Thanks, Dotsie! The girls and I had great fun with the blue and white dishes. They always help me get it all together . . . and we're usually setting the table late on the night before the celebration. (We had been thinking about it for over a month, but it didn't all come together until around midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Yikes!)

    1. Thanks, Rosella! I am a little biased about those grandchildren, but I agree with you! :)

No apologies needed. You have been a busy gal, traveling through the continent and having adventures. (Some pleasant ones, some not!)

  6. A blessed Easter with family gathered...those group shots are wonderful. So few families think to do them. I must try to get my family on board with that concept.

Knowing such a sweet thing about your great-grandfather’s love of that dear hymn makes the day just that much more special. My aunt told me that she spent a lot of time with her great-grandfather and that he was a tall man with a bicycle handle mustache. She loved him. He was good and kind, but no precious story about faith. Still I added the information to my notebook.

And I have been admiring the table setting with the name tags at each place. I think that makes each one feel very special.

    1. Thank you, Vee! The "group shots" tradition goes way back. I have been posing for them since i was a tiny girl. (And that's been quite a while.) :)

I love that you have a notebook of family history! Those little tidbits get lost as time goes on. I am always glad to find out something that I didn't know. And now I am considering a notebook . . .

I like to have place cards for extra special occasions, usually Thanksgiving and Easter.

  7. One of my favorite old hymns, proclaiming His resurrection! Everyone looks so festive and your table is so springy...love the cute place cards. Great family photos as always and you never fail to catch some wonderful expressions! Our crew was much smaller and we grilled steaks. :)

Grilled steaks sounds like a wonderful Easter dinner!

  8. Cheryl, this hymn was a favorite of my uncle's when I was growing up. Your post reminded me of him on Easter Sunday looking at me smiling broadly singing this hymn in the pew of my old home church. The joy on his face will never leave my memory.
Your table is set with such care and love befitting the special day. The sweet name cards are so lovely. Most of all the gathering of family is most precious. ♥

". . . the gathering of family is most precious. Yes. Such grace . . .

  9. Cheryl, how lovely to have all the family together in your warm and welcoming home! I love the way you can expand your dining table right into the next room. And I always appreciate place cards.

    1. Jean, the connected-ness of these two rooms was a huge selling point for us when we were house-hunting. The real estate listing for this house did not show any photos of the dining room (or even mention that it existed), so we were doubtful that the house would work for us. On the day that we first saw it, I stepped from the kitchen into the dining room and saw that it adjoined the living room and I knew that it was perfect for our family!
