As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

When a Procrastinator Likes to Set a Pretty Table

Last week, Kati helped me clean out the linen closet. We found an embarrassingly large stack of clean linens waiting to be ironed.

So for a couple of evenings, I ironed through . . .

a winter dinner party

I'm all caught up!

(for now)

  1. How wonderful that must feel. I used to stay caught up on all the ironing. Confession---I have a stack on the laundry table downstairs that only gets attended to when an event arises. Good for you! ♥

    1. It felt great! However, there are six clean napkins from last week, so I'll just begin a new stack. 😉

  2. Ha! Well done and I love the presentation of that chore on this post!

  3. Ironing isn't my favourite chore at all. When I do get to it, I set up the ironing board in front of the tv, put on a movie, and go at it. You do set some beautiful tables!

    1. Thank you, Lorrie!

I chose the same ironing method. One evening, we watched A Civil Action with John Travolta. I am not a Travolta fan and expected not to like it, but I got caught up in this true story about a case involving water contamination.

  4. I love to iron! What a lovely set of linens. I never know how to store them though...hang them up, roll them, or fold them...I currently do all three in two different places!

    1. I find ironing enjoyable once I get around to it. (The bane of a procrastinator: "getting around to it.")

I usually fold all of my linens because of limited storage, but sometimes they look like they need the iron again when they come out (especially tablecloths). Usually I just spritz them with some water, smooth them out with my hands, and say "good enough."

  5. Fun post! Some ironing can be pleasant; this might qualify; otherwise, get Kati to do it!

    1. I don't mind once I get started! It was kind of fun to reminisce about those occasions while I ironed.

  6. I like this kind of ironing! You have such lovely table linens. Its a joy to use them, isn't it? I am in need of new ones, and am going to start looking for them! I think I need a trip to HomeGoods!

    1. Thank you, Deanna! Yes, it is a joy to use them!

HomeGoods is a great place to search. I got all my red plaid napkins there this past fall. I happened to be there when they were getting ready to put them out. I quickly texted Ron to see what he thought and he said, "Go for it." So I went for it and purchased them before they ever even hit the shelves! :)

  7. Congratulations on a job I am sure is well done. Cheryl your tables are so beautifully decorated for each holiday. It certainly does one's heart good to sit down to pretty dishes and decorations. Food always tastes better served on a special plate. Have a great week.

  8. There is just something that makes you feel accomplished when a task (although I like to iron too!) like this is complete. Lovely tables throughout the season!

    1. Thank you, Debby! I sure was feeling accomplished. And then I wonder why I don't feel accomplished more often! :)

  9. I prefer this kind of ironing to my husband's shirts! And like you said, it brings to mind the event when the linens were used. So I like the way you did this post, and, of course, all you table escapes. Happy Occasions!

    1. Absolutely! I'd rather iron dozens of napkins than one shirt.

Thanks for your kind words. Happy occasions they were!
