As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

September Glimpses

Here are just a few peeks at our September, the month that begins full-on summer and ends . . . well . . . actually still plenty summery but with the hint of change.

🍎 We had a second Grand Summer Sleepover! We all had so much fun at the one we had in June. And look at how old these kids are getting! We need to take these opportunities while we can!

They are a creative group of kids and presented us with another original musical before they left on Saturday. There are a few inside jokes, but if you are so inclined, it's here for your viewing.

🍎 We had an ice cream party with Ron's siblings and their spouses.

🍎 Peter (10) spent hours making little acorn people and animals and houses for them. He gave us a "Gran and Papa" set. 🥰

🍎 I was eager to begin my Bible reading program again this September. This is my second year with this program in which you read through the entire Bible from September through May. Sound daunting? It isn't really! Maybe I'll do a separate post about it if anyone is interested.

🍎 A little more autumn, inside . . .

 . . . and out.

🍎 Ron worked on an outdoor project. More on that later . . .

🍎 There were peeks at the grandbabies.

Caleb

Ellie

Joanna

🍎 Our homeschool book club began a new school year.

🍎 I made apple butter in the slow cooker with some apples we brought home from our anniversary trip.

(I am probably late to the party, but I have recently discovered Half-Baked Harvest. Her food photography is the best! She makes me want to cook all the things!)

🍎 Mom and I took a little trip to visit my sister. We also stopped by my niece's home and visited with her family for a short while. Here is Mom with her great-granddaughters, such sweet and pretty girls!

🍎 And Bekah purchased her first car! Thus ends our constant game of vehicle switcheroo! (No one will miss that game.)

Glimpses of our month . . . all graces from His generous hand!

What were some graces from your September?

  1. What a wonderful month, friend! I love how creative the grands are! The babies in the family are really growing up, too.

I see that Kati favors Ron's side of the family!

Congrats to Bekah, and to you! We've done the vehicle switcheroo many times again!

    1. Grands grow up so quickly! Even faster than your own children!

Family resemblance is so interesting. Most people think that Kati looks like me, but there are certainly members of Ron's side of the family who she favors.

I'm sure you have done that vehicle switcheroo thing. . . more times that we have! I am not sure who is happier about Bekah's new car!

  4. I like the idea of beginning the reading the Bible through in the school year instead of starting in January. Why didn't I ever think of that? Those grands are growing up fast. Smart to get those sleepovers in. Woohoo! Cograts to Bekah getting her own car. I'll have to check out that blog. We have some quiet time here in Dallas so I've been able to do a wee bit of catching up on blogs. Happy October to you!

    1. I started to reply last night . . . and nodded off mid-comment. So I am back this morning to continue the conversation and hope to visit other blogs too! (You amaze me with your frequency of posts and your faithful commenting. You are fast, girl!)

I like beginning the Bible reading in September too. In the plan that I follow, you read the entire New Testament through the summer months, so you're actually reading the NT twice every year.

Oh, the grands certainly are growing up. Do you find, as I do, that grands seem to grow faster than your own children? It feels startlingly fast!

I have enjoyed tagging along on your cross country travels. I'll be over in a bit to catch up!

    1. Sherry, if there is anything that makes blogging worthwhile, it is to think that it has encouraged a fellow traveler in her journey. {{{Hugs}}} back to you . . .

  7. The grands musical is so creative! What talented kids. How long did they work on this production?
I always enjoy peeking into your lovely home, Cheryl. Those burgundy mums are really starting to bloom beautifully. Happy October!

    1. Happy October to you too, Martha Ellen! Isn't October such a beautiful month? I imagine that your walks are especially beautiful these days.

Thank you for all of your kind words . . . and thanks for watching the musical! The kids began working on it in June at the first sleepover, and continued over the summer whenever they were all together. They put on the finishing touches when they came on sleepover afternoon. Pretty fast, if you ask me! I will relay your compliment to them.

  8. Your grands are very creative—from acorn people to the musical. Talk about creating in something of a time crunch with special attention given to their audience (you and Ron their grandparents).

The littlest grands are so adorable and have grown so much.

Yay for a new vehicle. What a relief all around. Bekah looks pleased.

    1. They are really a creative bunch and work so well together too. I think creativity feeds on creativity. :)

Yes, those littles are growing so fast! It feels like every one of them was just born, and now Caleb is talking and Joanna is crawling and pulling up and Ellie has moved from her Moses basket to her crib. What?

Bekah is very pleased! And I may be just as pleased . . .

  9. I love the video! I seriously cracked up at the "Wha Wha Wha..." lol Peter's acorn people are very cool. And oh my goodness, the littlest ones are so sweet. Congrats on Bekah's first car. Thank you for bringing us into your home again and sharing the creativity of your family.

    1. Thanks so much, Becki! And I am sitting here smiling to know that you got a laugh watching the video! (I, too, loved the "wha wha wha!")

I know that you closed comments on your recent blog post. Just know that I care and have prayed for you.

  10. Cheryl, the acorn people are simply adorable and reminiscent of items sold at my tiny country hometown farm festival every year. I find your home beautiful as you decorate sparingly and warmly inviting. You have a gift. So happy for Bekah's new purchase and loss of your family game (wink). I can almost smell the aroma of spices fill the air from the applebutter;another favorite smell from my farmhouse on the hill as my mother made everything homemade. Many blessings as you sip tea and pour over God's word each day in your new challenge. I love reading through too...but so prefer the pages to turn back and forth, the sound and feel of the Bible in my hand and pages between my fingers. Thankyou for sharing your September. Annie
