As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Sunday Snapshots: 85

Today we celebrated the 85th birthday of Ron's mom.  The mother of eight children, she has actually been celebrating all week long, first with one, then with another, sometimes in, sometimes out.  I think that she is plum tuckered out with all of the coming and going, but we're glad she made time to join us for dinner today so that we could honor her.

It was a comfort food sort of day.  While the cold wind blew outside, we helped ourselves to Swedish meatballs and buttered noodles, sweet potato bread and cucumber salad.  Kristin made peach cobbler which we ate warm, topped with vanilla ice cream.  Kati had made "cupcakes for two" so that Mom-mom would have a birthday cake and candle.

Everyone gathered around the table and sang "Happy Birthday," thankful for time spent together and for all of God's gifts.

  2. The blessings are obviously mutual. What a beautiful woman!, and her beautiful family. It's so wonderful to have generational love. We too have grandmas and grandpas (even a great, my grandmother) to love and love us back!!
