As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

The Gran Bird?

On our recent zoo outing, I heard laughing from Bekah and Gavin who had moved ahead to the next caged exhibit. Kati walked back to me and said that the little ones had discovered what they had named the Gran Bird. "You're not going to be flattered," she warned me.

So I wandered over to the giggling children to see this creature:

"It looks just like you!" says Gavin. "It has your hair and your lipstick!"

Oh my.

(And just in case you're wondering, Gavin and I are still friends.)

  1. Gavin is delighted that you chose to include this on your blog. I called him over and had him read the title and he immediately starting giggling!

  2. Oh my, Cheryl! Gary and I walked through the zoo Sunday afternoon and stopped and looked at this bird. I'm glad you are still on speaking terms with your dear Gavin. :-)
