As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Downtown Christmas

Perhaps I'm a little old-fashioned, but instead of the mall with all its cookie cutter stores, I'll take the charm of a downtown stroll and inviting storefront windows and decorated lampposts and a sweet old dog lying in front of a bewreathed door.

  1. Ahhhh, yes. Berlin. One should never go there without a camera. That sweet old dog was lying in that exact position when I was there a few weeks ago. I've seen him on that sidewalk many times. I think his owner must work in one of the stores. I agree with you, Cheryl. This type of outing is much more charming than a crowded mall! Love your photos.

  4. When downtown looks like YOUR downtown... I don't blame you! That pineapple wreath went home with you didn't it? Either that or you are going to make one? It's so you!! I enjoyed seeing you and Katie and your mom all dressed up and strolling the beautiful shop fronts... sigh. Maybe we'll have to do that too, just for the wonderful photo op!!

  5. I would, too, if I had such a charming downtown as you enjoy. Our downtown has been rather overrun, I'm afraid. You gals look as if you dressed for the occasion, too, which is very nice!

  6. Cheryl, I looked for your email address & when I couldn't find it decided to "answer" your comment this way. This is the first year I've actually stopped to try to put my thoughts re. Christmas into tangible words. They've been brewing for many years though. Here's another gal who put it much better than me - I wish I could have said it so well. (It's in the second topic she addresses in this post...) http://lettersfrommidlife.blogspot.com/2011/12/blessed-truth-my-controversial-view-of.html
