As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

What Fire?!

Years ago, one of Ron's coworkers answered the phone in the office. Without even saying hello, the employee on the other end said, "Don't worry. The fire is out!" which was startling because no one in the office even knew that there had been a fire. 😨 (And, yes, he did mean a literal fire.)

I feel a little bit like that guy today when I say, "Don't worry. The surgery went well."

And that's why I've been scarce here lately.

The last week of January, Ron had the surgery on his left foot that he was supposed to have about 14 months before. Of course, after the first surgery and all of the complications that ensued, no one was ready for any such thing! But as time went on, he began to consider having the surgery that he needed. After praying for direction and talking with the surgeon back in the fall, the decision was made to prepare for surgery after the first of the year . . . with lots of extra precautions taken!

Nearly two weeks later, Ron is healing well! When we visited the doctor yesterday, he said, "My heart is smiling for you!"

The doc is keeping a tight rein on him, and he'll still be off from work for several weeks allowing plenty of time for rest and healing.

Life at Pineapple House is both restful and busy! (Does that make sense?) So during my unintended blogging break, I have been nurse, teacher, chef, and whatever-is-needed, and I am tired by day's end. Too much brain fog to write. As things settle down, I will be tiptoeing back into Blogland.

Here are a few peeks at our last couple of weeks . . .

Seen on our Sunday afternoon drive. Be still my heart.

Sweet birthday girl!

Lots of "dinner theater" (my friend Deanna's term) as Ron eats dinner from his recliner.

And that's my story about the fire.

  7. Hello. May all go well as your husband heals up. We did have a fire and are working at recovering from it. This may sound like a funny question, but I was curious as to where you got your camelback sofa? Mine had to be thrown away after the fire and I am having heck finding another one as Ethan Allen no longer makes them and that's what I had. Hope you'll share with me. Thank you!

    1. Hi, Deanna! I actually bought my camel back sofa from a friend, but I know that it came from Hudson's General Store in Delaware.

I am so sorry to hear that you had a fire! I would imagine that there is a great deal to recovering from such a thing, both physically and emotionally. May the Lord give you grace as you move forward!

  8. I've been wondering about you, dear Cheryl. I'm so glad Ron is doing well this go round. I know you are taking good care of him! He looks quite comfortable in his recliner with good food and lots of love. Do take care of yourself---the caregiver can get quite exhausted, my friend. ♥

  11. So pleased to know that Ron is doing so very well. Good reason to be absent so all is forgiven. I like Deanna's term for sitting in a chair before the tv eating one's meals. 🍛

  14. I'm happy to hear that Ron is doing well after his surgery. I hope you take care of Cheryl, too. :) Beautiful photos and I love that big white house! It's too large for me now that I'm olden, but I would have loved one like that once upon a time. Take care and have a nice week!

  15. And who wouldn't want to have "dinner theatre" in your living room?! Glad things are going well for your husband.

  16. So glad to hear that surgery went well and that Ron is doing well! At first I wondered "what in the world?" I am sure you have been doing a very good job of filling all of those roles you mentioned. I always enjoy seeing photos of your cozy home, whether you are celebrating or just chillin'. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  17. I too am glad that the surgery went well. I can imagine being hesitant to jump into another surgery (so to speak) with the fresh memory of the other one in your minds. You've been through so much. Praise God that this seems to be going well. Love your photos from around your home. I told Kevin this morning that I suppose we should take down the Christmas tree. LOL Actually, we left the small artificial tree with its strings of little white lights in the living room because it just helps cheer up that cold and dark month of January. Blessings on your family, Cheryl.

  18. Oh dear. I've been absent from blogging (and apparently blog reading even!) for quite a while, so this is the first I've read about it. I do hope he is healing well!
