As the name of my blog indicates, I spend a lot of time thinking about home. Of course, my Heavenly Home is the one that is eternal, so that’s where I need to lay up my treasures, and that’s the one I’m striving for. But in the meantime, I have been given this tiny piece of the here-and-now—this home on the edge of town, this family, this neighborhood—in which to serve Him. And, though this is in the earthly realm, I want the things that happen here to be investments in the Heavenly realm.

Walking Into the New Year

As Bekah and I read through the book of Exodus in the fall, this verse stood out to me. God had directed Moses to take His people into the Promised Land, and Moses pled with the Lord for direction, and for assurance that he had found grace in His sight. God answered him, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Then Moses said,

"If your presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here."

And that is how I feel, here on the edges of a new year. I don't know what the days will hold, but I know that I don't want to walk through any of it, the pleasant or the uncomfortable, the easy or the difficult, without His presence.

  3. LOVE this. My son shared a very similar thought about the new year ahead of us yesterday at church. Think the Lord might be telling me something? Time spent doing ANYTHING without Him is not time well spent at all. Enjoy your week!

  4. Yes! We are back to school this week and Tim's back to work and Emma is on her way back to school and Grammy is going back to Tim's brother's home. Lots of movement, and we want the Lord to take us and lead us through it all.

  5. What an appropriate verse for ANY new year.....My thoughts jump to the New Testament where the writer of Hebrews reminds us that God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." (I didn't take the time to look that up - but am pretty sure it's in Hebrews.....) Looking forward to continued "visits" to your "home" in 2015.

  6. Amen! We just finished studying Exodus, too, and I have a list of favorite Scriptures from it. This is a good one.

  7. Nothing is worth trying without His presence with us.
